Whoever says anything negative about someone who has just died in a thread like this is an ass. Rest in peace, Eddie.

Sad, sad, news. I'm guessing it was a suicide. He seemed to fit the profile of being clinically depressed. We may never know, especially with the body being burned so badly. The toxocology may be positive, and it still be suicide, as drugs or alcohol would heighten depression. Maybe he left a suicide note or called someone before it happened.

I bet he was reported missing, but there are a bunch of missing persons at any one time... and they were probably hoping against hope that this wasn't him.

I hope he's found some peace, an end to some pain, and I hope he died very quickly in that moment.

The guy lost his brother, who was a father type figure (possibly the only), at a young age. You have to believe that this was one of the issues at the core of his depression. For those saying he brought this on himself, you'll never know what kind of pain he dealt with, and money and fame obviously were not a fix. Hopefully he found the peace that eluded him in this life. RIP and God bless.

If it wasn't for his brother, he would have never been in the NBA. He started playing basketball after idolizing his brother, Marvin, who was a college basketball player. He would probably give up all the fame and fortune of the NBA to have his brother back.

Marvin passed away at 34 yrs old from a heart attack in March 21, 2001, 3 months before Eddie was selected in the NBA draft, June 27, 2001.

I think you are being really distasteful in this thread. You keep popping up to remind people how lousy a player Griffin was, or how dumb CD was for trading for him, or not trading for him...one post with this information is enough.

i hope eddie's at peace now. just sad.

i don't know about suicide, this would seem to be a pretty brutal method. i'm pretty sure drugs and or alcohol were involved though.

For a number of reasons I think 33 should be retired. Just a really sad day in the basketball world.
