Dr. of Dunk, Your saying that hakeem got away with traveling and that is not true because he was called for a lot travels, What I meant was that if your saying Dream got waay with those traveling than he must have got away with a every call, Save the wise ass responses for someone else. ------------------
I'm afraid I'll have to since you're coming at me firing blanks. ...oops, guess I got one in there ------------------ NBA Draft Lottery is May 20th. Start praying now.
I'm going to come right out and say it that I don't like Shaq and never have. I have always resented the feeling the the NBA and NBC were trying to cram him down our throats even when he and his teams were being regularly swept out of the playoffs. That said his innate talent and dominance can't be denied along with his improvement and growth as a player. We will never know honestly who is better Dream in his prime or the Shaq of today but I will always root for Dream because there is a quality about him that Shaq has never had. I don't know what to call it but I think HEART OF A CHAMPION describes it. Dream has always been about hard work, dedication to improving ones game and ones self as a person. Shaq has been about glitz, rap albums, bad movies, and ridiculous one liners. I've often felt that Shaq's basketball skills have often been secondary to him as a media figure. While there is nothing wrong with that I would say that it is something to be admired. In the end who would you rather hold up as a role model? Dream, a great basketball player who continuously worked hard to develop his skills to bring out the best in himself and his teammates while also remaining dignified and humble. Or Shaq, a great basketball player too who makes the most of his monstrous size and strength but in his spare time is trying to get super models to fess up that they slept with him. The Rockets Championship run of 1995 represented the best in sports. It was the perfect story of an under-rated team that kept playing at their best when the situation looked the worst while overcoming injuries and fearsome opponents to triumph. At the "center" of that story is Dream. For that reason alone he will always be the most dominating center. ------------------
Shouldn't you resent NBC for shoving him down our throats instead of O'Neal himself? ------------------ Charles Barkely on the Raptors defeating the Knicks in Round 1 :"I think it was the Lord. The Lord was with the Raptors. You know the Knicks like to talk so much about religion, but I think the Lord was a Raptor fan."
keeping up w/the title of this thread in 1987 this is Hakeem's line vs. the Sonics May 14th Hakeem Olajuwon turns in one of the most impressive individual performances in NBA playoff history with 49 points, 25 rebounds and six blocked shots against the Sonics in Game 6 of the 1987 Western Conference Semifinals. ------------------ My blood is made of Rocket fuel !
3pointer that one ranks right up there with the '95 Spurs series. Hakeem was simply a madman, and at times seemed he had a better shot at scoring double teamed than someone else did taking an open jumper. Classic. ------------------ This message was sponsored by Dr. Francis' Foundation of Posterization. The FOP was founded for and is dedicated to those who suffer from posterization by Steve Francis. Dr of Dunk, I whole heartedly agree with you. As much I am bias towards Dream, from an objective standpoint, both centers would each give each other fits, but Dream would have the slight edge.
But you would have to agree with me that Shaq's competition from any big man in the game is just a joke. With the exception of Duncan and maybe Webber, excluding Zo until he recovers, no other big man is a superstar. Garnett is not as aggressive and raw when we first laid our eyes on him. And while his stats may be comparable to a Barkley, he's definitely not in the same league. It's just like that Jason Kidd-Magic Johnson argument. Magic could score 40 if he had to. And Wallace gets nothing from me until he averages 20/10 in a regular season. He probably could if he didn't play just 2 minutes a game.
During the championship runs, Malone was at his prime, Barkley at his prime, a scary Kemp, Ewing, Robinson, and also a young Shaq were also in this hunt. But like I said, I agree with you. I just had to put that into consideration. Also (I have to put this in), out of the top fifteen players of all time, Dream is the only one who's lifetime playoff shooting % is higher than his lifetime season %. Mr. Jordan, Russell, Bird, Magic...name any of them. Their lifetime playoff shooting % is lower than their season.
Does anyone know if Shaq falls into the same category?
------------------
