It is funny to me though that Eddie Griffin if he had panned out is exactly what this team is missing.

A PF with range, rebounding and shot blocking.

Sometimes players have the talent, but not the head...hard to see that failure coming....

Wasn't so hard at all. CD and the Rockets performed no due diligence at all. There were plenty of warning signs on EG that were ignored if memory serves. He had gotten into trouble at Seton Hall having gotten into confrontations with his teammates. There were also other troubling signs especially in his background but that didn't stop the Rockets from sending Jason Collins, Brandon Armstrong and the rights to Richard Jefferson to New Jersey for the "Boy Wonder". He only lasted 2 years here and was released in December 2003. He's a free agent now because Minny released him on March 13th. I wish him luck getting picked up by another sucker er team.

And before some noob starts up a "Why Not Eddie Griffin" thread, let me point out that on March 30, 2006, he was involved in a bizarre car crash. Witnesses and friends stated that he was watching a "p*rn movie on a DVD in his vehicle, and was masturbating". After the accident, Griffin entered a nearby convenience store. The store's security camera recorded video of Griffin repeatedly saying he was drunk, that he didn't have a driver's license, and of him pleading with the man whose SUV he crashed into, offering to buy him a new car in exchange for not calling the police. The Rockets have enough problems as it is without going in search of trouble nor do they need to get burned twice by the same idiot. But as Forest Gump would say...

from what i remember his problems were not that hidden if a team really took the time to research him.

The Griffin trade didn't set the Rockets back at all. They may not have ended up with Yao Ming had it not gone through. Don't act like it resulted in some big reversal of fortune.
