NBA Basketball games are getting to the point I don't even want to watch them anymore. If flopping, whining, and general pandering and tricking the refs are how you get ahead in the league, then I don't see why I should continue watching. David Stern needs to: 1.) Come down hard on flopping, all instances of flopping are well documented thanks to youtube and such. League office needs to review the tapes and dish out punishments. First offense is a small fine, 2nd offense is a large fine, 3rd offense is a large fine and a 2 game suspension, etc. 2.) Get rid of these moronic refs who fall for this crap (The atrocious Violet Palmer, Donaghy's best buddy Scott Foster) and who generally suck at their jobs. If these refs can't spot an obvious flop, maybe there needs to be rule changes put in place, because this **** has gotten absolutely ridiculous. or else I'm close to boycotting the NBA.
It's mostly Euro-floppers that have infected the game with this crap. It's probably from growing up in countries where soccer is the biggest sport. Flopping is out of control in soccer. Think about the biggest floppers and when it became a pervasive issue in the NBA. Divac, Ginobili, Kirilenko... The Euros are soft and they're ruining the toughness and integrity of OUR sport (I don't care where Naismith is from, it's our sport). Has there been a single fine doled out yet? If this isn't worthy, what is? I think they need to do more than fine anyways, but they don't even seem to be enforcing that yet.
This supposedly the system they put in place this past offseason. If this incident doesn't result in the first ever flopping fine, then the new system ain't working.
So long as NBA continues to make money Stern doesn't have to do anything. He's old. He can retire jolly and happy There's an Auerbach video from the 70s that mentions flopping. I do not profess to be familiar with those days so I won't say the situations are comparable.
Oh my God, I hope TMac plays HARD tonight. We need to really ***** this b****. He is as soft as nobody. JUCK the FAZZ
great post moes.. This is exactly what my dad and I have been contemplating: boycotting the NBA. The problem is, we're avid basketball fans, I have great appreciation for the game of basketball, and it's basically our "family get together" time whenever I'm with the family in Houston.. but I just can't stand seeing all this bullcrap taking place.. I freaking hate flops, and refs that fall for it, but what really gets me is just Refs being simply awful, as in giving LeBron every call he can get. There's a thread already about this in the NBA dish, and this thing never ceases to annoy the crap out of me.. I wanna watch basketball being played by players, you know, let them decide the game.. but when the refs single handedly pull the cavs over the wizards with completely BS calls, it's just terrbile.. and yet we keep watching, I keep buying NBA jerseys, hats, T-shirts, etc.. and it's basically paying for Stern and his gang of horrible refs..
I thought the way flops should be called was done perfectly last night when Tyson Chandler flopped then got called for a foul when Yao scored over him while he was on the floor. I can't remember who was that ref.
I gained a ton of respect for that ref when he called that. He seemed to be consistently good last night. It was Olandis Poole btw.
Officials just need to use common sense. When ever someone's head goe sflying back or someone hits the ground there instinct is to call something. They are afraid to miss a call. Flopping should be a technical foul, just like there is for the defensive 3 second rules.
the nba is a sh!tty product with awful officiating. My undying love for the rockets is the only thing that keeps me around to watch it. I don't agree with flagrant fouls or technicals given to floppers because that'll lead to controversy as well. You simply need less f@cking r****ds that fall for this stuff, and ignore it.
