Don't sell the gals short they to have some flash in their games and some macho in their style. I mean more than half of them have girlfriends like the nba players do:rolleyes:.

I'm a NBA fan and Rox fan but when I got a chance to watch some WNBA games I was impressed. I'm not saying all of their players are ballers, but they do have some worth watching. If you only wtch for a limited time you will not see the true game. It like esdropping on a conversation and getting only part of the story. The gals play in spurts and if you catch them in an off spurt then you'll get the wrong idea. The mens team do this also but we (as fans) keep watching waiting for one team to start hitting their shots. I liken the WNBA to mens NCAA ball except the men dunk every once and a while.

The WNBA, compared to the NBA is boring as hell, but that doesn't I can't root for a team. GO COMETS! Plus there are some players that are at least entertaining and pretty good.

If you are so good why aren't you playing in the NBA?

In reality, most guys don't realize how good Swoops, Thomson and Cooper are.

And yes, it's true that Thomson tore up Moochie in practice. But before you say, "Well, it was Moochie, what do you expect?"

If you say that, then are you saying that you are better than Moochie? If so, I ask again, why aren't you playing in the NBA if you think that you are better than Moochie.

I guess LongTimeFan, you're just one of those undiscovered talents, huh?

Forget dunking! NBA players need to re-learn how to shoot.

This shows where you mind is...you think that dunking = talent. Wrong. Dunking is just a residual of mens' athletic ability over women. That's just a given. But talent has nothing to do with dunking.

If you want to see talent, spend 48 minutes on the court with the Comets players. I dare you!

P.S. Before you call the WNBA "retarted [sic]," at least learn to spell it right (r****ded).

    DavidS,

i mean no disrespect to the comets players at all. but the reality is that laterally and/or physically, almost all of them would get crushed.

swoopes is a hoss, and i don't doubt her ability to beat most non-nba players. although i don't see how she would stop a motivated man in the post, i also don't see how the average man would contend with 26 foot range, above average driving speed, and a pretty good pull up j.

other than that, sorry, but i - along with most men that have played any kind of organized ball (for the record, i played college and semipro bball) - would crush most of the comets.

ya, I used to believe that most wnba players could take a good rec player like us, but after watching beg borrow and deal when charles (big black dude) had to play chamique holdsclaw(sp) who is one of the best players in the wnba, and she beat him. However, in the game to seven it was 7-5 and he could score on her by overpowering her but he missed a couple layups. And although she busted more than 2 turnaround J's in his grill, i believe that the best player on this board could take most wnba players including a few all stars.

Average men are 5'9". Play pick-up games on the weekend, and think they are MJ.

Swoops is 6'0", and can swat most "average mens" shots.

Collegian men that barley can make the team will be able to compete with Swoops. I have no doubt about that. But, that's where the athletic advantage of just being a man comes in.

But I have a problem when some men think that all you have to do is "be a man" and then you are automatically "better" than a player of the same caliber of Swoops. This is not true.

Remember. These women are "pros!" Just because a male "weekend warrior" can play with his homeies doesn't mean they are better than the women. It's all relative. Have a little perspective.

One of the reasons is because some kids (boys) see the Comets play on TV, and think, "They sure look slow..." Well, play them on the court.

Remember, weekend warriors will have trouble hanging. The better men players will be able to compete and beat. Average man is someone 5'9" or 5'11" We're not talking about 6'7" guys that have played in college.

The sad part, is that the 5'9" guy that plays pickup ball on the weekend actually thinks the women are bad players, before even knowing how good they really are.

It's naive. Swoops, Cooper and Thomson have played and competed with men all their lives. That's why they are the best.

P.S. Most of the men that have played Swoops on the court have played *extra hard.* Know why? Afraid to be beat by a "girl." That's why.

The girls practice against guys everyday at Westside. Normally, they're guys who are there working out or are friends of Mooch or someone. But most of the time, the girls win. Why? They're in great shape, they hustle all the time, they run great pics which weekend players have no idea about, and they run as a team.

That combo beats most guys from the Y.

i will say this about the comets, their croud is louder than ANY rockets croud (INCLUDING THE FINALS).

i was at both the rockets finals and the comets finals and the comets croud was much louder.

here is why: more women and kids=louder croud. also, at the rox games, you have all these business types who are afraid to make some noise. i wish they would sell their tix to some real fans. The comets fans are very knowledgeable about the game and even during reg.season games, they are right on top of the action and cheering on their team.

I wish all you wnba haters would GO SEE A GAME before you form an opinion. (that is what most EDUCATED people do before voicing opinions. it's called RESEARCH--and no, i don't mean that most educated people go see comets games--smart a$$!)

finally, no, i didn't see the francis interview. i'm sure it went something like this: "uhh, yeah, im excited about this season, i hope we do good." :D

    DavidS,

i agree about the average fat weekend warrior not being able to compete. and i agree that most of them assume that "being a man" is all it takes to beat these women.

i don't know for sure about the average man being 5'9". that seems a little short. but, hey, who knows? either way, i'm 6'4".

Wow this thread has taken on a new life of its own.

I guess no one else saw the interview or had anything else to add concerning the interview.

I went to UT, and some of the girls on the basketball team used to play in our pick up games.

Bottom line, women cannot compete with men in basketball, believe me, it wasn't the WNBA, but UT has a top notch women's program and those women were no chance against the average gym rat who played high school basketball. If the man has any skills its no contest.
