but ultimately the boss gets the final say so. Receive the truth thats being placed in front of you.

that is true, but the difference is that rudy had much more say so especially after the championships. Also, rudy was much more active in the draft, and from what i've heard jvg doesnt concern himself with that.

and 3 allstars (1 is an all time great) type players that can routinely score 20ppg. rockets third best player = battier. Spurs 3rd best player = manu or parker.

Jeff said he would have had no problem playing Gay - he said he puts the best players on the floor - has nothing to do with age.

I believe him and I think he gives people chances. But he won't put a player on the floor just because the fans want to see them or because they are athletic. He'll put the players on the floor that have the best chances of winning the game.

the great thing about jeff as an analyst is that he continues to prove people wrong with respects to their criticisms.

But jvg only plays old guys - JVG: "i play the best players that help win"

but no one attacked the basket, why doesnt jvg do that - JVG "the spurs attack the basket so well and that makes them a tough team to beat"

    etc

Jeff's words? You guys are using his WORDS?

    ROFLMAO !!!!!!!

What JVG says - post him getting fired,.....ON TV....is meaningless and proves nothing.

    Actions speak louder than words.....

Truth speaks louder than lies. The "JVG won't play rookies!" myth has been conclusively dispelled no matter how much you shout it - the fact that your personal favorite player sucked and did not show that he deserved playing time is immaterial to this.

Of course, if you believe that JVG's words mean anything, he is the one that says he doesn't like to play rookies because his wife thinks playing rookies gets you fired.

    JVG's words.....right !

    :D

And Sam, I actually do believe that JVG only plays the players that "HE THINKS" will help him win.

It is his judgement in whom to play that got him fired....

You believe him despite eleven years of history in which no rookie has played more than 57 games in a season except Head when forced to by injury and Head at two years has the longest tenure of any player drafted by a JVG team. I say actions speak louder than words. I guess that makes me a pessimist.

No... its the fact that his team didn't win a playoff series, with home court advantage, that got him fired.

Only you guys have convinced yourselves that he got fired for not developing Vassilis.

It is not about V-Span but about the way the Roster was assembled before this year with flexibility, and then JVG going away from that plan almost immediatly.

IMO, that is what got him fired.

Just read the Chronicle, they talk about managment believing that JVG should have used other players, and they believed more in the roster than JVG.

    Link to Chronicle article

"He also believes that two players Van Gundy buried — Vassilis Spanoulis and Steve Novak — can be productive NBA players. Spanoulis is an especially interesting case. The Rockets need someone to penetrate the lane and make plays. Spanoulis does both those things well.

Novak is a pure shooter. Van Gundy believed his defense wasn't good enough. Morey might disagree."

No, actually it wasn't. What got him fired was his refusal to play more "phoenix-like" with the current roster.

well you admit it. the roster was assembled with flaws. Go away from what? flawed players?

this is so dam old its not even funny. Vspan may never be a good player, someone doesnt have to get PT for someone to suck. Snyder is running out of time. He's had 3 dam good coaches and all 3 limited his minutes...at some point you have to call a spade a spade, or in this case a scrub a scrub. Bonzi quit on this team before the season even started. it was pretty clear that playing basketball at a high level was not something he really wanted to do. Chuck , god bless him is a scrub and i say that in the best way possible.
Rafer was asked to do way too much and he had no legit pg.

and our best players are softies to boot.

doomed from the start, but us rockets homers are/were too blind to see it at the time.

Thanks. I would have put one of those cute little sarcasm faces but whats the use.

A lot of comments get thrown around on here without facts to back them up and people either make up their own facts or ask you for proof. When you go look up the facts that support your claims, they then turn and say you can't go by the numbers or the facts are deceiving. Bottom line and I'll bow out of this scintilating thread; his style/leadership/decision making did not lead the team to win a playoff series. We can Argue about JVG until were blue in the face but he just doesn't matter any more. He's ESPN's now. Thanks Jeff, but, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Addleman is our solution until he proves to be our problem and I'll ride his a$$. Until then, RA is the guy and go Rockets.

Wow, JVG must be totally blind to all of the young talent he has gotten. Let's take a look:
    with the Knicks
John Wallace - 7 and 3 player for 7 seasons, only got significant PT on the 16-66 '98 Raptors
Dontae Jones - played only one season (for Boston) 44 career points
Walter McCarty - Matt Bullard with worse shooting, best known for being loved by Heinsohn
John Thomas - career 3 and 2 player, never played a single game for JVG or the Knicks, 6 teams in 5 year career
DeMarco Johnson - played only one season, 6 career points
Sean Marks - career 3 and 2 player, never played 1 game for Van Gundy or the Knicks, 4 teams in 7 years
Frederick Weiss - never played an NBA game, best known for taking half-man's nuts to his face in the Olympics
JR Koch - never played an NBA game
    with the Rockets
Malick Badiane - never played an NBA game
Luis Flores - 2 pts and 1 ast per game over his 16 game career, spanning two teams, neither coached by JVG
Head, Novac, and Spanoulis all still with the team.

So, I guess it is true that JVG doesn't really develop his draft picks unless required to do so, but who would develop any of those players? There was a reason that the crowd was always chanting fire Layden on draft day in NY, and we haven't had a lot of picks to work with in his tenure here.
