This article is like 2 Astro's fans sitting around the water cooler. "Remember that Chronicle article that prematurely wrote off the Astros? Ha!" But instead of a 1-line joke, he turned it into an entire article. NOT about the Astros, mind you. But about the Houston Chronicle. Go Houston Chronicle! Win us a championship! Man I love the Chronicles. That #82 sure is something, isn't he?
Why can't the 4th largest city in the US have more than 1 rag? The Comical desperately needs competition.
Pshaw. I'm still pissed at RCA for discontinuing those nifty 4-head 8-track players. How am I supposed to listen to my Crosby, Stills and Nash?
Joking, but with more than a touch of sincerity to it. He honestly feels that the article became a factor in the turnaround, but he's saying so in a half-joking manner to avoid looking like the blow-hard he really is. Ultimate bandwagon columnist; his articles change stances based on wind direction. Evan
There isn't a columnist/paper in America that would have been writing a positive article about this team when they were 15-30.
^^^ ain't that the damn truth. no one wants to here the silver lining routine or it's all going to turn around stuff when a team is 15-30. it's going to be as negative and rightfully so when a team looked as bad as they did. justice is decent but he is the definition of a bandwagon columnist.
Exactly how I feel. On the surface, its easy to dismiss this article as tongue in cheek or full of sarcasm. But to know Justice, he does not have enough humility to properly pull of such a self depriciating style like this.
I agree completely. I just don't think much of writers who sensationalize a team's current state by making such absolute predictions/statements. Kind of like Clutch's "classic quotes".
as a writer myself, both professionally and as a hobby, all you can do is comment on what you observe. you do no one any favors calling an apple an organge if what you see is an apple. i find justice entertaining. he doesn't flip-flop so much as live in the moment. and he has strong opinions - but he's supposed to. sometimes, circumstances dictate he rethink his opinions. he usually does with a dose of humility. if someone were to look back over some things i've written on the texans, i've praised capers and lauded the franchise's direction in several pieces. that was then, this is now. should i continue to praise capers just so i don't appear flip-floppy? things change. as for this piece, it was obviously tongue-in-cheek. somewhat self-serving, but a joke nonetheless.
