And I'm asking the simple question: Why can't there ever be rational, civilized debate (i.e. without silly fallacious arguments)?
Good question. Maybe someday the people who cry about health insurance being a socialist plot, will ask themselves what you've brought up here, and there might be rational civilized debate. I hope so. It would be great to have a real debate instead of made up socialist agendas, and death panels that don't exist being brought into it. I would love to see that debate.
And I think it would be great if people would debate what exactly the role of government should be. When should the government be allowed to coerce the people it governs, and when shouldn't it be? Maybe we could also have a rational debate on the actual economic costs of the well-intentioned, but flawed policies the government undertakes as it manipulates and controls markets in the favor of powerful lobbies. Honestly, I don't think it will ever happen until the whole system comes crashing down.
I guess the federal government should give everyone a salary like theirs too ($174,000). It's only fair.
It would be nice but one side of the argument wasn't accusing the other side of making too much money so that argument doesn't really have a place in this discussion.
This video is a little late. Especially since what was passed wasn't the Congressional level health care for everyone. I also disagree with Dick Durban. After experiencing Health Care in Singapore if I get sick and its not an emergency I am going to Singapore to get treated.
Sure and we have that debate all the time. Except crying "Socialism!" kind of distracts from a rational debate.
True but Dick Durbin was stating that if he had the choice he would like to be treated in the US. In an emergency we don't really have the choice where we are treated.
No sound. Is he essentially saying that Republican Congressmen are being hypocritical opposing healthcare reform as socialist while receiving health insurance from the federal government?
yes. He said if they think it's socialist to have govt. health care they should give up their govt. health care.
Every American is a socialist to a degree. I don't pretend I'm not to any degree. I'm 100% socialist.
But, they're employed by the government. It's not any different than my employer extending me health benefits as part of my compensation.
99% of people would love to have that level of health care for everyone. Those against the health care reform are just saying it isn't possible.
No, they shouldn't. However, employers shouldn't be burdened by having to provide health care benefits for their employees.
