Nice. Planning on building a new PC this year anyway, but this makes me all the more excited to do so!
Geez, I was somewhat disappointed with the graphics in the gameplay video, but then they showed the outdoor world. It definitely isn't a technical marvel, but that doesn't stop it from looking beautiful. I'd still prefer that it do a little more technically (especially if it releases later rather than sooner), but it probably won't be too much of a problem. Haven't played a Blizzard game in a while (not a WoW fan...or a MMO fan in genereal), and I'd probably like this more than StarCraft 2. Definitely looking forward to it.
that's the problem Cola, its not about graphics, the Diablo people care about the gameplay. I know where you're coming from, I know some PS3 people who started playing Diablo 2 over again. I like PS2 Baulder's Gate, the only type of Diablo game that is out on the next gen is Marvel Alliance, which I've finished.
Agreed 100%, and it isn't just the Diablo people. It is the Blizzard people. 9 million subscribers don't play WoW because it looks good (It is almost 4 years old and some of the graphics are very outdated). They play because the game content is fun and the replay value is good. It was the same when Diablo 2 came out. The graphics were not stellar but the game was fun and addictive. Therefore people played it and played it a lot. The other idea behind their games, is that being less graphically intrinsic, it allows for more people to play without having to upgrade their system. If someone has a choice between 2 games; one they can play now and one they have to pay a few hundred dollars to upgrade, the average person is going to choose the one they can play now. Blizzard does a great job marketing to the masses. They make games that are fun, addictive and readily accessible by the majority of people. That is one of the main reasons they are still going strong while many game companies struggle.
FWIW, I'd much rather Blizzard go this route than the route Crytek went with Crysis (I might even end up playing Diablo 3 before Crysis actually ). I had to throw in some minor complaints about the graphics because that's how I am, but like I said, it probably won't be a problem. I think the art design for the game makes it stand out even if it doesn't do all that much technically. And even if it didn't, like you guys said, people will still love it for the gameplay (and that includes myself).
Can't wait for SC2 AND Diablo3 to come out!!! (Although the only time I'll get to play it is after the two kids are asleep) It must be all that WoW money that's given them the flexibility to work on two new projects simultaneously - I don't remember if they've ever worked on more than one title before finishing the other... Being able to manipulate the environment is gonna be so cool in D3.
The success of WoW may be part of it, but that's kind of how a lot of games are developed these days. I wouldn't doubt it if they started developing WoW before finishing Diablo 2 and/or WarCraft 3 though. MMOs take a long time to develop.
Not sure if this was linked anywhere else, but here are some developer videos from the event: Spoiler <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1HEGrnpqe4Q&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1HEGrnpqe4Q&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IODgVVRLiMk&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IODgVVRLiMk&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BxoHm3XieQc&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BxoHm3XieQc&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XlHBIgM_XRw&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XlHBIgM_XRw&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3iw9CURkfxY&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3iw9CURkfxY&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lWxYlWitpUk&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lWxYlWitpUk&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oXurH2JFunc&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oXurH2JFunc&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/v6LhGxcdQpU&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/v6LhGxcdQpU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Haven't checked them out yet, but I'm assuming some of the info in the following link is from these videos: http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/39576/Diablo-III-Tidbits
