i echo the 'everything tied up too neatly' sentiment. i have a feeling the show is going to go on for more than next season. just feel like theyre gonna milk the show as long as they could before ppl lose interest and then they finally put the conclusion to dexter. which is bull**** of course. i really thought this was supposed to be the final season of dexter. and then when i found out there was a 6th planned, i thought maybe 5th finale would expose dexter to debra, but she covers for him as in the books. the 6th would showcase the siblings falling out before everything comes to an end. either a violent one or he reaches an understanding and abandons/ignores his dark side completely. i thought lumen was a great fit for dexter, finally having a rita-like love interest but he doesnt have to lie to her and also fits in the dexter-harry relationship, with dexter passing on harry's code. her leaving him like that seemed selfish but shows the possibility of having the dark side leave a person. i think in one of the books, they portray the dark side as a living being that existed before man, and theyre like a parasitic being. also with bigger stronger dark sides than others. there was an instance in the book that dexter's dark side came to encounter a more malicious dark side and abandons dexter in fear.
I wonder if, despite the all too clean ending, one of the loose ends that was apparently wrapped up to everyone's satisfaction (rather illogically) is going to come back and bite Dexter in the ass next year.
also i hate what they did to fix the dexter-quinn relationship. quinn's character basically went a complete turnaround. everythings squeeky clean for dexter again.
Spoiler I have a wild theory that Deb knows that it was Dexter on the other side of that plastic. Great finale episode, though... I didn't expect anything dramatic. I think Season 6 will involve Quinn... because now that he knows Dexter clearly helped him out with the blood work, it's just a matter of time before he gets snoopy... no matter how great his relationship is with Deb. Can't wait for Season 6!
Spoiler I got the same feeling that Deb may have realized that it was Dexter on the other side of the pastic. She gave him a talk about how you think you know someone and turns out you don't and nothing is as simple as it seems. And at Harrison's birthday party she said something about that he should be happy that now it's all over. I think she knows.
There was no way it could have been as good as last years finale, so I didn't set my expectations that high. I enjoyed it, yet I'm happy to see him alone and hopefully killing more next season. I wasn't a Lumen fan.
This season was promoted as a cat and mouse game between Quinn and Dexter. That never happened. The best part of the show is Dexter's attempts to avoid discovery. But he is no closer to discovery now than he was before, everything is back to normal. The ending of Season 1 with Doakes in the car was perfect. It foreshadowed peril. At the very least, Quinn could have said something that planted a small seed of doubt in Deb's mind, something to build on for the next season.
Spoiler They had their ending right there and blew it. Deb would have found out Dexter and Lumen were involved and she would have had to make the same choice along with possibly putting Quinn behind bars or putting Dexter and Dexter would have to make a choice as well. Moral dilemmas everywhere but they chose to play it safe and it didn't work for me. It seemed like they weren't sure if the series would go on so they made the finale like a series finale, wrapping up everything nicely, just in case.
Good season but I think it would have been better if it was more centered on the Quinn vs Dexter battle rather than Lumen the rape victim and helping her get revenge because it might make him feel better about what happened to Rita. Yes, it would have been a lot like season 2 but definitely more intense since Deb would have to have been kept in the dark by two ppl instead of just one.
You're kidding, right? 1:00 - 1:25 1:55 - 2:05 (they blatantly spell it out for us right here) 2:07 - 2:10 <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PqMJ8G3UkYo?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PqMJ8G3UkYo?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
lots of haters but I loved the season finale. Screamed, "**** yeah" when Deb...you know. I've watched to show since season 1 and hate the new bandwagon watchers.
Lumen is much hotter in the Bourne movies. Age is a b!tch. I thought for sure he'd kill her.....no loose ends, right? She'll be back and Quinn has to die at some point. Personally, I'd move out of Dade County. Seems to be a serial killer's haven.
If you read this thread you'll see that the majority of people were disappointed, when a series remains stagnant in its storyline obviously its going to piss some people off. It SEEMS as though Dex is in the same position as he was in Season 1, that's not a good thing for fans. People expected progression, it didn't happen, if you liked it, then good for you, but to call people "bandwagon watchers" is ridiculous.
This. I liked the season overall but I don't think Dexter's character evolved enough for me. When Rita was taken out, I thought Dex might lose it and evolve into an inner struggle between his dark passenger and the Dexter looking for normacy. So what did TPTB do? They gave him a new love interest and turned him into a white knight. Still a good show but they had a chance to take it to a new level and decided to play it safe instead.
I'm surprised by all the hate for season 3. I loved the relationship between Miguel and Dexter and particularly the cat and mouse game they played in the second half of the season. In some ways this season and last season are mirror images. I thought season 4 dragged too much and went out with a bang. Season 5 took a few episodes to get going then was a gripping season with an underwhelming ending. I was fine with it overall, but I do feel a bit ripped off. The writers kind of built up this momentum towards Deb finding out about Dexter and then took it a different direction at the moment of truth. That fit with the overall plot, but I felt like they teased us a bit. I'd have to rate the seasons so far as 3, 2, 5, 1, 4. My wife and I stayed up way too late wondering what Deb meant with that last comment. Does she know he was the vigilante? Does she suspect his Dark Passenger? Does she know he let Quinn get away? Does she know Quinn had Liddy investigate Dexter? I guess this answer will get quite a bit of play next season. At some point this show has to end, and I'm mighty curious where it will wind up. I see four possible outcomes. Dexter is killed. Dexter is arrested. Dexter comes to peace with his Dark Passenger and will keep the code after the final credits roll. Dexter abandons the Dark Passenger and attempts a "normal" life. Hearing him at the end almost wish he could be rid of the Dark Passenger was touching. It was the first time I felt he truly wished he could let it go so he could remain with Lumen. Would he try to banish the Dark Passenger if it would cost him his relationship with Deb or Harrison? That might be a pivotal question for next season.
I can see where some people might like season 3, but the best in the series? And 4 the weakest? That's crazy talk! As for the finale, the more I think about it, the more it seems like Deb really might know what's up. She's obviously had a moral transformation, where she came to accept that "things aren't always as easy as they seem"...letting the "vigilantes" get away, telling Quinn she'd be there for him no matter what even before he was cleared for Liddy's murder, etc. So I can see her having a somewhat stoic reaction to finding out the truth. One thing to consider is that Deb and Quinn's relationship has reached a level where you can easily envision them sharing their most guarded secrets. Maybe Deb pushed Quinn to tell her what really happened with Liddy, and he spilled the beans. She may not have wanted to believe him, but while all of Liddy's footage was destroyed, the pictures he took at the marina were still in Quinn's apartment. Of course, even if Deb knows nothing, it's still worth noting that Quinn has those pictures. Could be important if another Dex vs. Quinn storyline pops up.
Really, I think this show should be ending soon (maybe another season or two?). The whole premise is based on twists and turns.. and they are running out of them. I think they tried some character development with some of the side characters this season (batista, laguerta, and quinn).. but I don't think it really works. The only twist left is Deb finding out (i.e., catching Dexter in the act). I wonder when the writer's are going to throw that out. It is their ace in the hole for superbowl type ratings for sure.
