I saw the finale two hours ago and I still feel sick after that last scene. It is extremely sad on a number of levels. Season 5 will be interesting.
AGREE...just saw it and the whole episode I waited for that and was almost convinced that it would be a typical season finale and it wouldn't happen...I WAS WRONG
I guess it had to be done. They could not continue the same story next year where Dex still struggles between his responsibilities and his dark passenger. Didn't realized it would be like this though. His character is always growing. Best show on TV.
I was just thinking that the whole Rita and Dexter thing was getting boring.. and it was like they're repeating the same issues over and over again like in a cycle.. well, i guess not anymore. So, I assume it was trinity who did it?
Zing! Spoiler I was worried that the "twist" wouldn't pacify me because I was so ready for something crazy to happen. I felt like they would have to kill a main character to even get a reaction out of most fans, and well...I'll be damned if they didn't do just that. I'll have to get a little further away from it all before I can say for sure, but this might be my favorite season so far. Season 2 was really strong as well w/ the Doakes and Lila storylines. Now let's talk about plot holes. - How would Trinity even begin to have a clue that Rita would be coming back to the house? - How did Dexter get to Trinity when his car was broken down? He couldn't have been in the trunk because the car was at the auto shop being worked on when Trinity picked it up. He had to be following him, but it's very hard to drive up on someone on a desolated road without them noticing. It honestly looked like Dexter came out of nowhere. - After killing Trinity and returning home, Dexter suddenly gets a notification on his phone saying that he has a new voicemail message. The phone was in his pocket, so why is he just now receiving this? Shouldn't he have A) received the original call, or B) heard the notification at some point earlier (a rough time line tells us that roughly 12 hours have passed since Rita would have gotten to the airport and realized her ID was missing). Any thoughts?
Disturbing, especially the little'un at the end, yet completely poetic. And Deb's manic facial expressions were on full display at her climactic scene with Dex. Spoiler The most sympathetic and least aware person pays the biggest price. Too bad for Ms. Benz, though; hopefully she's got something else in the works: unless she's a new, added apparition. What the hell are they going to do with all the kids? That could be pretty rough to watch next season. Wow, Californication's a completely watchable show (Pamela Aldon should really get her own show by next fall); in fact it's probably what family sitcoms should have evolved to by now, but still quite the letdown. Maybe not so much with the "haunting" dream sequences.
Spoiler I think they've got that covered. A few episodes back, they introduced Rita's ex-husband Paul's parents (or brother/sister...can't remember) as an option for watching the kids. I could easily see them taking the role of foster family. They will be especially sympathetic given the direct connection to Rita, Aster, and Cody. The kids probably won't want to grow up in that house anyway, with their mother being murdered in the bathroom and all. I could see Dexter selling the house and possibly even moving back in with Debra, or taking his old apartment back for himself. Honestly, I wouldn't mind it at all. The kids add very little to the show if you ask me.
I have an theory on this but don't know if they will go with it next season... Spoiler The whole time Dexter was breaking down in the jail cell I got the feeling the dark passaging was taking over. It would really be a STUNNER if Dexter killed Rita kinda of like a new double personality, after all he kept repeating that he "didn't want this anymore" but never made it clear what he didn't want? How did Trinty find his home address? Get the car, kill Rita and take off all before nightfall without Dexter finding out since we already took the cap off before Trinity went to his car??? Stunning ending and sets up ALL KINDS OF QUESTIONS...
What I don't understand is: Spoiler How the hell are the Police not going to ask questions about why trinity hit up dexter's wife? and how are they not going ask all these coincidental questions that keep putting Dexter in these situations? I'm guessing next seasons all about deb realizing who dexter is.
By the way, props to John Lithgow. What a GOOD/creepy performance this season. Could have done without all the nudity by him, but...
It was my reasoning that Dexter simply went to the body shop and waited for Trinity to come get the Mustang. Once he did, Dexter trailed him and abducted him. However, that brings up the question of how Dexter sabotaged the car to ensure that it broke down. It seems as though Dexter would have had to get to the Mustang while it was at the shop, but I'm sorry...you can't walk into a busy body shop and start screwing around under the hood of a vintage Mustang with no resistance. We could say that Dexter messed with the car while Trinity stopped to get gas or food, etc., but we can only go off of what they show us. To me, it's a plot hole until someone comes up with a plausible (not just possible) explanation.
The whole jail scene was just to creepy with his dad bascially blaming the mess he was in on Rita and the kids...something has to be with that. Dexter, IMO, doesn't leave to many plot holes and Dexter's ability to tail him from the shop made it impossible for Trinity to take care of business before he got the car.
MY Theory Spoiler Dexter was not at the chop shop. The best explaination would be he put out an APB on the car. Found him later on. I expect later that night. Trinity could not have left during the day light hours. Rita's message mentioned a Beautiful Moon so She'd died at night. IMO Which means the kid had been there quite some time. Alone and crying. Rocket River
I thought something bad was going to happen earlier in the episode when Dexter and Rita were talking about leaving for a flight the next day. Trinity was on the loose and Dexter didn't think it was a big risk to spend the night at the house with Rita and the kids still there?
And that's not even the toughest question. Spoiler Trinity's family still thinks he's Kyle Butler. They're likely to mention him to the police at some point during questioning, but at the very least they're going to recognize "Kyle Butler" when they find out their father/husband killed his wife. I'm guessing Dexter realizes this and gets to them immediately. He'll tell them what he did, possibly even who he is (dark passenger, serial killer, etc.), give them all the money he took from Arthur, and they will be totally happy to forget they ever met him. It's also possible that after the fact, Batista will remember Trinity talking to Dexter when he was in the police station. I went back and watched some key scenes, that being one of them, and Batista clearly takes notice of Trinity...although he may not have gotten a clear look at his face. Point is, Batista is a detective, so I wouldn't be surprised if he committed some of the Dexter/Trinity encounter to memory.
