I enjoyed this episode. Each season usually starts out a bit slowly then picks up speed as it goes along. A lot more happened than in the first episode. I think they're handling the kid\marriage situation just right. As a new father, I can definitely tell you that I'm sleep deprived and am a bit off my game in general. Having Dexter a bit off his game from time to time seems spot on even for a serial killer who follows his code so rigidly. I'm curious how he'll deal with the Ned Flanders next-door neighbor, who has a lot more potential to be an aggravating plot device. Lithgow's character got a lot more screen time, and I like where they're taking it so far. It's good to know he doesn't just slit the femoral arteries of all of his victims. Instead each one is killed differently, and he apparently goes for a young victim to bleed out, an older victim to bludgeon, and then a big question how he finishes the third and what age range he's looking for. From the preview, it appears he kills victim #2 next week, so I'm wondering how he'll stretch out the third kill for the rest of the season. And how does this Quinn thing play out? Clearly Dexter now has the goods on Quinn, who was being investigated by IA. Dexter has to play this chip at some point.
This is a ridiculous point. We all suspend disbelief to a degree. Part of what makes a show enjoyable when it is based on a premise that is very unlikely is that the rest of the aspects of the show ARE realistic. Deborah's character is not realistic. Please find me a police officer who will tell you he (or a colleague) has gotten away with half the stuff she has. My ex-gf's dad is retired HPD homicide. I'll ask him how many times he has gotten away with that stuff. Actually, we got him watching Dexter a few weeks ago so I'll see what he thinks.
the last episode seemed like a filler episode.. and the thing with the neighborhood watch was kinda dumb... the show is becoming a little too light and breezy... i guess with more people watching, it wants to be more approachable to the 'mainstream'..
This past episode seemed pretty uneventful. I agree that the neighborhood watch thing was pretty ridiculous, but suburbia can be that way sometimes. As someone mentioned before, I'm curious to see how they stretch the Trinity Killer's arc across the remainder of the season. Spoiler He's already killed twice, which leaves just one victim...unless he completes more than one cycle. On a different note, I wonder how Dexter is going to explain away his actions (knocking out the security lights) as well as his "kill outfit" now that Rita caught him.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Spoiler How can they kill off Lundy already? He's the best character in the show!
I think it's pretty definite. Spoiler I think Dexter is also going to mighty motivated to catch the Trinity Killer now. Last week's kill was just a warm up to tracking down Lithgow's character. I wondered earlier in the season if he would let Lithgow live as a homage to a successful serial killer, but with Deb shot, there's no way Trinity doesn't wind up on a table covered in seran wrap. As a sidenote, I have an etiquette question. Can we talk about the current season without spoiler tags? I'm assuming anyone reading this thread is watching the current season. Definitely use spoiler tags if you want to talk about clips from next week's episode or spoilers you read about on other sites.
I predict that Deb's boyfriend is the shooter, not Lithgow. Though Dexter may think it's the Trinity Killer and it will play out like you described.
Or it could be the Vacation Killer. Maybe it was Anton, but the killer was dressed all in black and took Lundy's watch. If it was Anton, he wouldn't have been so pro about it. I think it was definitely Trinity trying to make it look like a Vacation murder. Guess we'll see.
same. Anton's would have been a crime of passion. I see Anton mad ass hell at Deb and her trying to cover up that night. It's hunting time and the chase is about to begin.
I'm interested in hearing the rest of the message Lundy left Dex. Also, did I miss something when Trinity bumped into Lundy? I assume he did it to maybe pick his pocket or something, but I don't recall anything coming out of that interaction besides Lundy suspecting him.
The 30 rock guy dropped his keys when he bumped into Lundy. They said sorry to one another and the killer got on a bus. Lundy recorded the bus and description of the guy.
I think by "30 rock guy" you meant "Third Rock From The Sun guy" and by that you meant The Trinity Killer and by that you meant John Lithgow I was confused by that interaction myself, but figured Trinity had to have done it for a good reason, considering he could have just left unnoticed. I was equally confused when Trinity got himself beat up in the alley. Anyone know what that was about?
This is my guess and maybe this is pretty popular but I don't go on any Dexter fan boards or anything so I don't know if everybody else already assumes this: His ritual of his 3 killings is reenacting some trauma from his life. I think the first kill represents a sister who committed suicide by cutting herself in a bathtub. The next his his mother who jumped to her death after the daughter's suicide. Finally I think the last one is his father, whom he blamed for his sister and mom's suicides and after getting beat up by him, finally beat his own father to death. The bit at the bar was probably him reenacting his dad beating him and maybe he's awaiting to find that guy again and to kill him.
I also think its Trinity trying to make it look like a Vacation Murder case. For all Trinity knows, Lundy could be close..... He would want to kill him. Its a shame because I like the Lundy character, but sometimes in a great show like that ,a "Lundy" has to die. This was also one of the best, if not the best episodes yet IMO. Thought it was brilliant.
I don't know about for the series, but it was definitely one of, if not the best episode this season. It's a shame it was sort of spoiled for me. I downloaded a torrent that got cut off about 10 minutes early (right when Dexter and the lady cop were facing off in the gas station bathroom) but the kicker is that just as the video ended, it jumped to the last couple of seconds of the episode where Lundy and Deborah were laying on the ground. So when I finally did see the last 10 minutes, I already knew something was going to happen
