My issue with Carpenter isn't the "Deborah" character, it's her acting skills. I just think she's horrible all around, and her reactions and emotions lack believability. I mean, when I see Masuka or Angel, or Lundy, or even Dexter, etc. I see their character. When I see Deborah, I see Jennifer Carpenter playing Deborah. To further my point, I thought her acting was terrible in Quarantine as well. And I didn't even realize it was the same actress until I was nearly a whole season through Dexter! So you can't even attribute my dislike to a bias against her.
I never followed this show until this summer. I caught up on all three seasons. Now I cannot wait for the next one. I think Rita and the Lt. are the hotties on the show Dexter's sister seems a bit too skinny and tomboyish for me Masuka is hilarious and by far one of the best 'characters' I have been away from the show so I lost alot of names in my noggan but . .. The Cop that was caught with the prostitute sting ole girl . . who busted him is HAWT too he is an interesting character as well The black guy in the 1st and 2nd seasons was so intense I like his interactions with Dexter the knowing but not knowing until it was too later Rocket River
Even though I've already seen the first episode of season 4, I'm looking forward to tonight's episode so I can watch it in HD. And I'm jonesing to see the second episode. My wife has finally gotten into this show. We've got 3 episodes left in season 2, so she should be caught up with me by the third episode. Now she knows why I urgently kicked her out of the living room so I could watch that show about the serial killer. Spoiler I have a feeling that Lundy suspects Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher and is trying to nab two suspects at once. It also looks like the Trinity Killer targets Brunettes, which pretty much guarantees Deb will be in his cross-hairs at some point. And for the record, my wife is on the pro-Deb side of the fence.
I was not impressed with the first episode of season 4. Spoiler Is anyone else scared that the whole juggling being a husband/dad with being a serial killer theme is going linger all season? I know it's a big issue but if every time the guy is about to waste someone Rita calls or he gets sleepy from "dad duty" I'm going to lose interest pretty fast. Even the show mocking its own intro was a bit much for me. I want to see him back to being cool, calm, calculated and brutal. This Dexter-lite isn't going to work for long. Also, I hope we get to see John Lithgow expand on his character. The first episode didn't give us much. It would be a shame to have such a great bad guy actor not get a chance to really go deep with his character.
I liked it enough. I'm trying to keep in mind it's the opening episode and just setting the table for the rest of the season. Spoiler One thing about the Trinity Killer I do know is that Lithgow initially turned the part down but changed his mind after producers showed him the script. I think there will be some mighty cool plot twists for that character.
No worries. There hadn't been any activity on it a week and I certainly understand the excitement about the new season.
It looks like Dexter (and Heroes) will have new episodes available for instant viewing with Netflix. The season premiere is already available.
I agree, Spoiler I understand the marriage and the new-born, but he's frucking Dexter. His character is too smart to unravel with just a few more responsibilities. No way that the Dexter from the 1st 3 seasons falls asleep at the wheel regardless of sleep deprivation. He needs to get back on track, controlling the environment he is in rather than reacting to it or we are in for a lackluster season.
That is awesome! Before this season started I was way behind, watching the old seasons through Netflix streaming, so I never had to worry about actually having Showtime (which I don't). This solves the issue of where I'm going to get my Dexter without bothering with torrents.
It was good to have Dexter back last night. Californication too. They've been hyping the baby all off season. I think the first episode just had to lay the groundwork for the issues Dex will have to deal with later. The redo of the intro made me laugh.
yeah that was funny. I too have done a lot of recruiting to get people to watch the show. I feel in love with it after the first season.
Wow, I disagree on pretty much everything. Have you ever seen the Wire? That show is written by a guy whose life's work was following the Baltimore Homicide department around for a year and writing about it, so you have to assume his take on these detectives is somewhat accurate. Deborah isn't very far off from many of the characters in The Wire and in some cases maybe even less disgraceful/obscene. Many of the people who go into that line of work aren't "professionals" in the same way as an accountant or engineer. Also, I think the actress does a great job portraying both Deborah's manic and depressive sides. The character has major issues, but I don't ever find myself thinking this is a completely unbelievable person. If you're looking for unbelievable characters look no further than Dexter himself. =)
I'm gonna have to disagree - I think Deborah is by far the worse character. I watch the show, but I cringe every time Carpenter comes on screen. She is, IMO, a horrible actor, and completely distracting to the show.
Yeah, I don't see it at all. I guess it's love her or hate her. Seems like the opinions vary wildly. I think I even remember EW calling her one of the most underrated actresses on TV, go figure.
Good 2nd episode...though not particularly great. Spoiler I was happy to see some development for Lithgow's character. He definitely seems like he could shape up to be the smoothest, most efficient foe that Dexter has encountered thus far. It was also good to see that they didn't play too much on Dexter being sleep deprived like they did in episode one. This was more about his memory loss from the accident, and him being busy at work. I also found it interesting (and refreshing) that he tried to put Rita and the kids on the back burner a little bit with the whole "this is my job...everyone here works the same hours...this is what I signed on for...this is how I provide for the family" speech. Like others, I was worried that they would abuse Dexter's obligations to Rita and the baby to the point of annoyance. They may very well end up doing that, but I'm just glad they steered away from it this week. Although it wasn't a cliff hanger, the ending was pretty great too.
