Just a preview of how silly it is to think having a superstar solves most problems.

With Durant, Beal, Tyus and Budenholzer on his team, he can't achieve a top efficiency offense.

    Overrated.

Booker isn’t a superstar. If they had an actual superstar they would be just fine.

Offense isn't their problem .... they just don't play defense.

    OP is speaking some truth.

I think suns blow it up and try to take back control of their picks

Edit: most importantly, you're gonna see jalen do some inexperienced stuff in the playoffs and there will be a knee jerk reaction of sorts.

Sure, but they’re 10th in offense which is poor for having book/kd. Put a legit superstar in place of book and their offense skyrockets

Booker would be great on Houston in his natural role as a shooting guard. The only question is if Phoenix is going to be reasonable in their asking price. The only guys worth giving up what NY did for Bridges are players like Giannis, Ant, Luka. Booker is not on that level. I would not give up that kind of haul for Booker. So if the Suns want to make a fair trade that would be awesome. But if they are looking to compensate for years worth of bad decisions by being greedy, I’m fine trading their picks elsewhere or drafting with them. Not gonna overpay for Booker. We are not the desperate team, they are. I say we squeeze them.

Don't tell me who was a superstar, tell me who can or will be in the next few seasons. The argument about Booker is he would be in such a good situation here that he'd have his greatest season. I think what you're thinking is that statistically he hasn't proven it in the past. These are totally different things.

I'm sure everyone thinks they define a superstar better than others but my experience is that superstars are a fictional and transient thing. For you, it's the best statistical players. For ESPN it's the most profitable players. For others it's some random mixture like stats + perceived toughness. My bias for example is often towards the more clutch players.

My contention is that none of these methods have been consistent at predicting the potentially most accomplished team members. I know if someone has 5 years of being one of the best playoff performers in the past it's an easy choice, because that's when the stats/metrics don't need you to predict anything and the player has exceeded superstar status essentially. That's a useless metric, it just tells you who you're too late to acquire.

People think their method would differentiate a future all star from a future superstar and that's baloney. No one has that level of accuracy. Nothing about 22 year old Jokic told us that we'll be asking if he's better than Michael Jordan and Lebron James in his prime. Maybe he'd be great but an all time great? No one. He was defensively elite in the playoffs during that title run, that's an impossible to predict thing that's 100% related to mental markers that did not appear in the previous playoffs.

I don't buy into this superstar or bust mentality. What I do know is if you win a title, 99% of the time you drafted a superstar or they will start calling someone a superstar after the fact. I want a solid argument for what it does for our team and how to pick one. Role player patterns tend to be somewhat linear. Superstars appear to be a variety of outliers. I don't know a human who's any better than a coin flip at determining who will be a superstar.

Would he be better than Jalen? He hasn't been, even if his raw counting stats are a bit higher.

Jalen's been the better shooter and better defender.

They are gonna want their picks and probably Jalen to make a deal and I'm just out on that. (remember this is coming from someone who has been highly critical of Jalen).

I might give them Cam and one pick ..... but why? Can't play Jalen and Booker together a whole hell of a lot.

Rather focus on improving the PG spot .... depending upon what Amen turns into, maybe at the 3-4-5 instead?

Nah. Not a winner. Im a big believer in seizing the moment and had a great team in a 2 year window and couldn’t finish the job.

booker is a much better shooter than Jalen; just look at his career true shooting percentage. But look Jalen is younger and can score in ways Booker can’t. I don’t think he ever becomes the shooter Booker is, but he’s certainly improving tjat part of his game. Assuming Jalen’s efficiency holds up the rest of the season, it’s certainly a valid argument to say we are better off keeping our assets and sticking with Jalen rather than paying a king’s ransom for Booker.

Green just turned 23. if he just marginally improves a little bit more over the next four seasons, he’s going to have quite the prime.

The underdiscussed Booker issue: his looming contract extension.

Booker is on a supermax right now, as we all know. But also Booker is extension eligible starting this summer. If Phoenix doesn't trade him they'll be extending him. If they do trade him this summer, his new team will 100% need to extend him next summer.

Guys of Booker's status don't OK trades to new teams without a soft agreement that an extension is forthcoming; and if Booker weren't extended next summer the whole looming free agency / trade demand song and dance would begin.

Booker's expected contract extension in next year's offseason (estimated based on the cap):

    2028-29, age 32: $72.1M
    2029-30, age 33: $77.8M
    2030-31, age 34: $83.5M

    Yuck!

That’s outrageous for a 4X all star with no real history of winning as the #1

Booker is nice and all good player but I don't really love his game. Much rather take a shot at Ja or Trae first this summer but if they can't be had and Phx is willing to give us a discount because we have their picks, I'd still do it. Not really that much to lose. If the 25 pick is in the top 4 though there's no way I'm trading that for Booker.

Booker and Ja do not fit. Trae maybe on offense, but Ime and Trae's defense? I don't want any of them on my team. Jalen will end up the better player of the bunch and Amen is going to be a superstar. I'd like us to add size and shooting to the front court and a backup combo guard that can shoot lights out. If not just re-sign FVV at 25m a year for 3 years as a backup PG.

Ja and Trae attack the basket unlike Booker who likes to play the midrange. That's really all I want. Someone who can breakdown the defense to create opportunities in the half court. I do agree with you that Amen will end up as the best player on the team so I don't really mind if the guy we trade for is not a super duper star. Just give me someone who can generate offense in the half court. I don't really want to renegotiate with FVV just yet because that 40M expiring is perfect for salary matching a trade for an allstar so you can just add picks or Cam.
