U let go of hammer u get smacked. Any theory of Paul being able to avoid it by running out the front door is stupid.
Might as well suggest that paul should have done a leaping barrel roll to safety it sounds just as stupid.

Folks spent the last few months suggesting that this was all g2y revenge fighting, now questioning why pelosi didn't escape/subdue/beat up the assailant.

Last i checked Pelosi is the victim, do better and have more empathy that he was lucky enough to survive a lunatic attacker influenced by the conservative media.

I think he del his retweet of the gay conspiracy a day later. But it was already too late. Once something is amplified a billion times into the echosphere, it’s very hard to escape.

Depape didn't mean to hit Pelosi with the hammer. He was going to give him a reach around and missed...several times

Woke is easier to spell than empathy or compassion for the simple minded folks who lack either.

Yes it's very unrealistic to expect someone especially an 80 year old man to be able to avoid the hammer strike. I've done weapon drills and even for in shape martial artists in most case the person with a weapon will be able to land a strike in a close combat situation. In knife defenses one of the first things we tell people is "expect to be cut".

Also rewatching the video it's tactically impractical for Pelosi to go out the door. At the angle that Pelosi would have to go out the door he would've had to cross infront of Depape. Depape like then would've still gotten a shot at Pelosi. Pelosi does what you would expect most people to do when he lets go of the hammer. He retreats and brings his hands up to try to stop the strike. Depape is bigger stronger and faster than Pelosi. His position is such that he can strike Pelosi before the LEO can stop him.

hence why i suggested a dive head first into a barrel roll to avoid the potential hammer swing.

But in all seriousness, Depape swung the hammer so fast that the LEO weren't able to prevent it, no fking way Pelosi could have avoided the strikes moving towards the front door without being seriously injured. Logic eludes a lot of these skeptics/conservative posters.

im not. they spent 90+ pages making up all these crazy theories. they arent going to be honest now...even when video evidence is shown.

i really dont think they believed what they were posting. theyre just partisan hacks and trolls with no real interest in honest discussion.

its weird b/c they have to know how stupid they have come off in this thread, but they dont seem to care.

How Extremists Like The Proud Boys Weaponize Irony And Memes To Spread Hate : NPR

On a recent episode of his livestreamed show, the 22-year-old extremist Nick Fuentes repeated a formula that has won him a following with some of the youngest members of the far right. He went on an extended, violent and misogynistic rant, only to turn to the camera and add with a smirk, "Just joking!"

In this case, from the April 22 edition of Fuentes' show, America First, a viewer wrote in to ask Fuentes for advice on how to "punish" his wife for "getting out of line."

Fuentes responded, "Why don't you smack her across the face?"

    The rant continued for minutes.

"Why don't you give her a vicious and forceful backhanded slap with your knuckles right across her face — disrespectfully — and make it hurt?" Fuentes went on. At one point, he pantomimed punching a woman in the face.

He then added, "No, I'm kidding, of course. Just kidding. Just a joke."

Fuentes was following a playbook popular among domestic extremists: using irony and claims of "just joking" to spread their message, while deflecting criticism.

if two cops can’t react fast enough to stop an overweighted dude with a hammer, an 80-year-old can react fast enough to escape

this is yet another in a string of the stupidest illogical conspiracies

Don't think so. Trail hasn't started and the prosecutor actually argued against releasing it.

Judge orders release of video of attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi - CBS Minnesota (cbsnews.com)

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Stephen M. Murphy ruled there was no reason to keep the footage secret, especially after prosecutors played it in open court during a preliminary hearing last month, according to Thomas R. Burke, a San Francisco-based lawyer who represented CBS News, The Associated Press and a host of other news agencies in their attempt to access the evidence.

During a preliminary hearing last month, prosecutors played portions of Paul Pelosi's 911 call plus footage from Capitol police surveillance cameras, body cameras worn by the two police officers who arrived at the house, and video from DePape's interview with police.

But when news organizations asked for copies of that evidence, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office refused to release it. The attack, which occurred just days before the 2022 midterm elections, prompted intense speculation from the public that fueled the spread of false information.

The district attorney's office argued releasing the footage publicly would only enable people to manipulate it in their quest to spread false information.

But the news agencies argued it was vital for prosecutors to publicly share their evidence that could debunk any false information swirling on the internet about the attack.

"You don't eliminate the public right of access just because of concerns about conspiracy theories," Burke said.

The news agencies who sought the release of the footage also included The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, The Press Democrat, CNN, Fox News, ABC, NBC and KQED, an NPR-member radio station in San Francisco.

This reminds me of what Musk does often. It depends on a susceptible audience, and we have witnessed that audience is large.

Musk retweeting the gay Pelosi conspiracy and then deleting it shows that it's not just him playing that game. He became a victim of the same game (or not) by others.

When a smart guy like Musk can be so dumb, I shouldn't be that surprised that people believe in these stupid conspiracies. And I think it shows that it's not just trolling. Trolling for sure is part of it, but it's more than that, and that people actually believe this crap.

What's interesting is why. There is such a strong need for discrediting others to defend your political ingroup is an explanation that makes sense to me.

First they came for the deliberately wrong and provocative,
    and I didn't speak out -
Because I wasn't deliberately wrong and provocative.

Then they came for the partisan hacks,
And I did not speak out -
Because I was not a partisan hack

B-b-but DePape was a nudist 15 years ago and made hemp bracelets in 2010, there’s no way he was yet another right wing lunatic.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes:
