Sad to lose someone so young, no matter how it happened. The media usually manages to get lots of important details wrong; either way it's a tragic accident. Prayers are with you, your friends, and his parents.
Very sorry to hear. RIP. I know this doesn't help to bring him back, but there is something so strange in the statement by the HPD detective: An HPD detective who reviewed the case and interviewed witnesses Friday said there is "no doubt" in his mind that Agwuoke jumped in the pool on his own, even though he didn't know how to swim. "He definitely wasn't pushed," said Sgt M. Dillingham. He said Agwuoke and several other students leapt into 12 feet of water, "just for fun, cannonballing and all that." "He sank like a rock," Dillingham said. "It was very obvious when he hit the water he was in distress; nobody else was apparently aware he couldn't swim." If nobody even noticed he was in trouble for 3 minutes, how can the Sgt. be so sure about how it was obvious that when he hit the water he was in distress and that he sank like a rock?
I would guess that it means that no one remembers seeing him struggle-- which also explains why no one assisted him. How said.
I can't swim, but I'm not afraid of the water. But even for those who can swim, I always say not to go anywhere in the water where your feet cannot touch the floor, pool or beach(especially). I had a friend die on a high school field trip to the beach(I lived in the Caribbean) and even though he could swim a rip current took him and he tried to fight it. Pulled him right under and that was it.
I read about this but it hits closer to home when someone knows them personally. Sorry for your loss. RIP.
You had me at soccer, but that didn't matter... it's a tough loss no matter how you see it. This is right on the money. vincentt and RocketsMac, I see your classmate's loss brought ya'll and possibly other Westside peeps together. Ya'll make sure to live well and do him a favor. Make him proud. It saddens me to think that someone could have helped him when he needed it most. No need to speculate something, RocketsMac, but don't let that bring you down. Your friend is still with you in memory. Perhaps the "blame" part is what isn't letting you grief in peace, but if you can just put that aside, you'll be less devastated and honor your friend. Grieve all you want, man, it's the least you can do.
Quoted one more time for truth. RocketsMac, I'm very sorry for your loss. From the time I was in the spring semester of my senior year through the end of my 1st semester of college, I lost 6 friends. It's a tough thing to go through. All you can do is your best to make your friend proud. May he rest in peace.
