I assume this Okur deal is Detroit using their FULL MLE for 6 years. I think that is as high as Detroit can go with Okur to make sure they can sign Wallace to a huge deal. That's their plan.

I think 6/40 is pretty large, but I wouldnt be surpised to see a cap starved team such as Utah ask for more. They have the money and are looking for young players to build around.

I bet Utah could throw out a 6yr 50M deal at Okur.

What I have to wonder about with Detroit is this. Let's say they bring back Okur and Wallace. They have Ben Wallace and center and Rasheed Wallace at PF. No doubt there. They have Okur as the "1st big man off the bench" to player either spots. Where does that leave Darko? I mean he NEEDS time to develop and he would be the FOURTH big man on that team. I am not sure I see the logic there.

To me Detroit signing Okur would make him a nice tradable asset in the future without losing him for nothing now. He has to be if they anticipate Darko turing into a big time player.

wizkid, the Pistons play in one of the richest areas in the entire country. Did you know that? I'm guessing not.

I'm amazed after all the stuff talked about how crappy Houston is as a place that people would dare trash other cities.

I agreed with you. That only means NBA is running thin on good big man. That's why they're paid so much money simply because they're big. Okur does not deserve that much money. I don't understand why some people on this BBS is so high on him. In the finals, he looks a lot like a Wang Zhi Zhi that's soft and without Wang's shooting touch. He was just another big body to give foul to Shaq.

Rox should use the TE to lure Wallace since if Detroit don't have the money to offer him and plus there is no doubt Wallace will want to play with Yao and TMac on this team. I mean if he wants a championship..where else would he want to be...not NY....that team is horrible.

By the way that dude named Darko is horrible. I seen him play in Detroit garbage minutes and he looks horrible... why do people think he even deserve top pick....he plays absolute horrible man. No coordination whatsoever. I mean if you're going to be top pick...at least for sure there are some fundamental to his game...but man...he is horrendous.

Don't Detroit have capspace? That would mean they don't have the MLE.

Also, don't they have Rasheed Wallace's bird rights? Meaning they can go over the cap and sign him to whatever they want?

If all this is true and Detroit is around 5M under the cap, theyc an offer that 5M with maximum increases to Okur, which would be the equivalent of this offer. Then when he's signed, they can go voer the cap and sign Rasheed Wallace to whatever they like because they have his rights, am I correct?

yeah right. i wish. i doubt he's gonna leave the team he just won the championship with for less money on a mediocre NY team. especially since Larry Brown loves him so much.

Sheed wants a long term fat contract, a contract too long for our taste. In a crazy market like this year, he may very well get his money.

Will any team facilitate this trade for us? Besides, Our TE isn't gonna be enough anyway.

Phoenix still has a bunch of cap space left. About 8 million or so. Not enough to make a Kobe run but enough to sign pretty much anyone else on the market.

Detroit is over the cap until Rasheed signs. The NBA counts free agents against the cap until they are signed (by their team or another) or their bird rights are renounced by the team. Detroit has not, and will not, renounce Sheed's bird rights, so he counts like 20 million dollars against their cap. Detroit can offer Sheed a max deal if they wanted without effecting this offer to Okur.

If Rasheed signs for, say, 10 million Detroit would then be marginably under the cap, but not as far as the MLE under. This means they are over the cap by NBA rules and would have the MLE to offer.

The only way they wouldn't have the MLE to offer would be if Sheed signs with another team (not a sign and trade). Then they'd have cap room over and above the MLE.

According to relative depreciation thoery, Okurs offer is indeed is a bargain because someone in the sixers organization was dumb enough to offer Kenny Thomas a $50M + contract.

Kenny Thomas and the Sixers set the bar not Okur. Kenny's contract is ridiculous and he more than likely not justify it.
