We don't know the Pistons have made any offer. Yahoo sports speculated that the Kings might accept Prince to trade down in the draft. No one said Detroit considered it. In fact, I think they'd be crazy to offer Prince to move just 2 slots in the lottery.

On the flipside, I don't think Ariza is enough for the Kings to justify moving down from #5 to #14. That's a huge drop for someone you can pick up any year for the MLE.

I'm not sure why the Kings need a veteran SF anyway. They are a young team with time to grow. That makes Ariza more valuable to them than Prince. But, the lotto pick is even more valuable. I should hope the vet SF they allegedly covet would be better than Ariza.

Yeah, I;m wodnering why they're going after a vet SF, they have Casspi, who should be capable of cracking a starting lineup by at the most next season.

I'm not exactly sure why it's assumed that Prince is much better than Ariza. I think they are comparable talents, except Ariza is 5 years younger and holds the same championship experience Prince does. Not to mention that Ariza is on a fair contract for the next 4 years while Prince will probably be jetting out of Sacramento come next year.

All of that being the case, Ariza would hold more value to a young Kings team than a 30 year old Tayshaun Prince.

I think the odds of Morey trading up are getting better by the day.

Ariza came on strong, well stronger towards the end of the year. Since Martin arrived. But I am by no means attached to the guy. I don't feel he makes or will ever make a HUGE impact. If Morey likes what is available with that pick go for it. I could see the Kings actually wanting Ariza.

Wow. It's funny how few people actually read the OP. Even the ones quoting it.

(Hint: Taking on Nocioni's or Garcia's contracts--which is what the OP was suggesting the Rockets do in order vault their hypothetical offer over Detroit's--is a BIG deal to Sacramento.)

Prince makes 11 million dollars next year. With that much money going out I find it hard to believe one of those bad contracts wouldn't be included anyway in a Detroit deal.

That is pretty weird proclamation for Sacramento to make. The part about Detroit being the partner was strictly speculation on the part of Yahoo Sports. I personally think that the Pistons could get much more value from Prince than that gained by moving up two spots in the draft.

Again, it seems odd that instead of saying that they would entertain trading down for a veteran player, they limited what they would take back to only a SF? Giving out that specific information sounds like the Sacramento GM trying to brace the fan base for what is likely to happen. When I first saw this, my immediate reaction was that an offer had been made that the Kings like. My second thought was that Morey may have laid the foundation for that trade four months ago.

There is nothing here that has been officially announced by any of the three teams. Why would Sac take our offer? We don't know that we've made it, nor that the Pistons have made any offer.

Similarly, I refuse to confirm or deny that I am willing to sleep with Megan Fox.

Ok let me get this straight. The OP's proposal is Cousins for Ariza, the 14th and Nocioni's bad contract.

    1. Cousins himself is a huge risk for a lottery pick. Yeah he could be very good, but anyone who's denying that tub of lard could very well be the next Eddy Curry is fooling themselves.

    2. For that huge risk, we have to give up the 14th lottery pick, Ariza (who's actually one of the best mid-level contract guys in the league despite what most people here think) AND take on Nocioni's bloated contracts.

We're giving up assets (Ariza, 14th lottery pick) and taking on huge liabilities (Nocioni) for a risk? That's like plunking down 1M$ to buy lottery picks so you have a bigger chance of winning the lottery. Honestly I'd rather talk with Minny about getting Pekovic and the 27th.

Given that they're a young team, I think they would find Shane's professionalism(which can affect the young players) more valuable than Ariza's upside... We can also offer up some NY picks, and prospects in addition to Battier/14th pick that can help us trump the Pistons deal

Plus we have good history with the King's in terms of trading partners...
