Great thoughts on your other points but I couldn't help but to have a small issue right here. Sealing your man is not an advanced skill, it is a rudimentary one that every big man should have.

It is basically just getting your base low, not letting yourself be moved, and making your body as wide as possible so the d can't just easily circle around you prowling for steals or deflections.

I do have to agree with Kobe, at least on the clips he was showing, Gobert should have been fighting a lot harder for position than he did. Hold your position strong, at least for a second or 2. Punish smaller guys that are on you with physicallity if nothing else, even if you aren't getting the ball. Most of the time it just looked like he was going through the motions.

Not that I want him to do well or anything, I'm just a fan of post play and it is so disappointing to see all these big softies in the nba now.

The show was interesting, but like some mentioned, it did need something else to raise up the entertainment level. Not sure what exactly.

It would be funny to see other idiot players chime in with their stupid takes. Maybe have McHale do an episode.

I mean, let's be quite clear here. The fools dismiss Ariza here. His value has been relayed here before (shamelessly plugging myself), on deaf ears sometimes.

Tuck and Luc are shiny recent additions.

Ariza doesn't have that new car smell.

From what people here about the FO though, Ariza is on the keepers list. If true, I'm glad we have a premium on character and loyalty.

Yeah every single player on the rockets mentions his contributions.

The coaching staff and the front office are always speaking so highly of him.

Opposing players constantly name ariza as a main reason our defense is so tough.

Kobe does a film study and is so impressed he mentions him by name multiple times.

Ariza misses an open 3. Transition opportunity for the opposing team. Ariza is already back and in position to defend the transition. Russell Westbrook burns him 1v1 in the open court for a wide open layup.

“Ariza is so trash man, wtfffffff”

    Sigh...

I really enjoyed the vid and @noppeper's synopsis, too. I agree with nopepper vs Kobe on the Gobert seal point, though. I agree with you that sealing is rudimentary and should be achievable by almost anyone who understands balance and body leverage. But I guess I read nopepper's point differently.

It's not that we think Gobert can't seal. It's that it would do little good in that first play Kobe points out, because who cares if Gobert catches it 4-6-8' from the rim with Tucker or Capela on his ass,,,he still has to turn and shoot something, because he has no moves to get past PJ, if that low in the block. The percentages of Gobert to 4-6' turnaround, hooks or trying drop steps isn't good math vs our offense.

imo, Kobe actually gave Paul too much praise on the two strips, because other analysis would be Gobert has to be more aggressive at sealing Paul away from the steal...lulz.

Gobert can only roll and dunk in straight lines...and even then, he's got soft hands and loses the ball a lot. You can't make Gobert into a low block threat no matter if he seals per Kobe or not. I could argue Gobert letting PJ front him is arguable better for the seal, for occasional immediate drive by Mitchell with Gobert in ally-oop position or offensive rebound. I love talking this minutiae detail.

Bottomline: imo, Gobert is better to clear out of that space for position just outside the 3-second area on baseline, which forces PJ to stay there, too. But this is all because I think Gobert can only dunk and rebound misses for his points.

Reminds me of something I saw of a compilation of many in NBA circles complimenting James Harden (including Pop mentioning he only watches film on Harden), then goes "But Twitter says Harden is just good because fouls!". Lol.

no seriously, f*ck this guy. Mitchell is doing exactly as Kobe advised him to do. Making those exact same passes to Gobert that Kobe pointed out in this video.

y'all really think the utah coaching staff didn't break it down for him? he had to watch some publicly available video from kobe? teams video analysis and statistics are way more comprehensive than what we get to sample.

Mitchell already said in an interview that he watched this video two times. Yes, the Jazz staff members might have told him the same stuff, but it's different coming from Kobe. Players get motivated by this kind of thing.

They figured out that lob in the second half and the jazz stopped doing it. That's what helped the Jazz build that big lead. I don't think Utah can shoot like this the entire series. They usually don't have the offense to put up over 110 points a game.

The rockets coaching staff should have anticipated they would try to copy that **** though. They were publicly talking about it.

    Trade Gordon the playoff choker

TIL CF blaming a public Youtube Video for the Game 2 defeat.

    Good chuckle.

Maybe next time we hit our open shots and we win the game. I know, very shocking discovery, lemme make a Youtube video about the math of hitting 3s.

Yup, that was the point I was trying to make.

I understand that sealing is fundamental. The problem is that very few modern day big men can really do something efficient with the ball after the seal. But maybe Kobe wouldn't know, as during his heyday, he always played with dominant big men that made life easier on him.

He truly needs to save these for after the season, like u said I can point out at least 6 things that Mitchell did differently than game 1 and all of those things were detailed by Kobe.
Not only was he making the exact same passes to Gobert, as Kobe detailed, he also played our screens the way Kobe implied, He drove with the intention of the kick out as Kove detailed, He rarely attacked from half court as we saw in Game 1.

As the game went on, you can see where he kind of went back to his normal practices, but to start the game, he definitely was following the Detail implemented by Kobe...

Kobe didn't see or say anything that the jazz coaching staff didn't also note immediately. This is nice for the fans . But , I'll bet all the money I have that Mitchell is taking cues from his coaches and not Kobe
