It bears repeating: Literally days after cashing the last piece of his $27 million signing bonus, Watson forgets who paid him and runs off to social media to talk trash about the team. He knew all about the team, their bad trades, and their front office personnel, well before that money hit his bank account, making this a complete bish move. The team, respectfully, approaches him privately via phone call. They could have chosen the low road as well and hit social media to air their displeasure in a public forum. The Texans took the high road and called Watson. He refused to call them back. Oh look, another bish move. Watson, his bank account now full, continues his vague, cryptic social media smoke campaign, letting rumors run rampant and dragging the team through the mud. This only hurts the Texans' future and makes the fans suffer for Watson's selfishness. Someone has to call this behavior out. Now here we sit. Our best player acting like a diva who is hell-bent on busting up the team... and with a no-trade clause that all but assures us that we'll get half a loaf back in any trade. The fans deserve so much better. Watson got paid to play - not to make front office moves. Watson should end this now by manning up and communicating with the team.
It's clear that I struck a nerve by actually calling out the truth. How long will we let star players act this way without calling it out? It's accountability. It's professionalism. It's being a statesman. Rare traits in this day and age -- especially among Houston sports stars.
Whatever it takes to distract them from election conspiracies, failed lawsuits, being forever stained as supporters of one of the worst factions... sports has apparently become a “safe haven” of sorts.
No one in the national media (ESPN) will call him out. Louis Riddick, Mina Kimes, Ryan Clark are all on record blaming the Texans management and Clark even tried to bring race into it. No one in the local media will call him out because I guess they don’t want to feel the wrath of the fans. I get that Watson is well liked, young, charismatic, etc. But like you said there has to be some accountability and culpability from his side....this has gotten ridiculous.
Mort: New coach will have to make a Hail Mary plea Still wants out of Houston No formal request; only January Be careful with all the smokescreens about his other destinations This isn’t about a new coach; this is about ownership
As I and a lot on here have expressed, the main issue is with the ownership. Cal's dumb ass is even worse than is dad who did a pretty poor job of running this team. He's seen how this franchise totally wasted HOF careers by not even sniffing an AFC championship game. I continue to not blame him for not wanting to be on this team anymore.
Probably will be officially done with the team if they trade him. He’s got 5 years left on his deal. Stop caving to Twitter demands from star players. Yes the owner is terrible. But that was known well before he signed his deal.
Problems will still be there if they trade Watson. It won't fix itself until a new family owns the team. In today's NFL landscape, there's no financial reason for a family to ever sell.
Exactly.. I would think he would already put in an official trade request by now if it didn’t matter right? I’m not saying he won’t put the request in possibly in the near future, what I am saying is this coaching hire will weigh heavy on what move Deshaun makes moving forward.
I am aware the Texans are screened regardless what happens, but I am tired of this new era of “player empowerment” which is really just a code name for “contracts are meaningless”. It’s hurting these sports league unless you live in NY or Los Angeles.
Accountability? Watson played his heart out every fking year, yet the front office has repeatedly failed to improve his team. Promoting sht hc to full time gm = Watson said nothing, losing his star wr due to religious reason/holy culture = he said nothing. Get sacked record time and lose = said nothing. A man can only take so much, getting lied to and having his advice outright ignored = the last straw. But sure its all Watson fault for not just playing in and shutting his mouth as his team attempt to b patriot of the south once more.
