I doubt they would win in Federal court. They collectively bargained to allow the Commish to change suspensions. The league conceded issues within their agreement to allow this. It would be an interesting case.

Darius Anderson burglary with the intent to rape, later intent to rape charges dropped- cut by Texans and probably never see the a football field again

Calvin ridley- bet on games suspended for a year

DeAndre Hopkins- failed drug screen suspended 6 games

Trevor Bauer- assault and sexual misconduct (technically with consent) 2 yrs

Deshaun Watson- over 24 allegations of sexual misconduct, biggest guaranteed contract, traded for a massive haul, 6 game suspension with a fine of 333,000

Sad that at the end of the day kids and inspiring athletes are going to assume as long as you can afford it and can produce on the field, non violent sexual crimes will result in a time-out

Should have skipped Judge Sue and went straight to Judge A. Peele.

    Nope
Of course not. I do think the NFL hired someone knowing full well they would look out for the best interests of the league. It was in all of their best interests for him to get a lenient penalty, and she served up the weakest one possible that could still pass as a punishment. It’s a damn joke.

It's like they told Watson to throw the ball as far as he could and gave him 1 game suspension for every 10 yards lol

Well, that's pretty disappointing. Since most of the women have settled, I'm kind of over worrying about whether or not it is justice for them. I think they are all ready for it to be over as much as Watson or the NFL is. But if I'm honest, the biggest reason I'm disappointed is because I wanted the draft picks the Texans got in return to be as good as possible. Chances are the Browns will still be pretty good this year. My biggest gripe is the Browns giving Watson a contract geared towards him losing the least amount of money for this type of suspension, effectively endorsing what he did...as well as the NFL giving the Browns such an easy schedule to start the season. It's hard to look at that and not see them all conspiring to make this a suspension juuuuuuuust long enough to get the media/public off their backs after the initial outrage, and then get back to putting football product back on the field.

I suppose that shouldn't have been a surprise, but it is still really disappointing. I doubt Watson truly learned any lesson from this mess, other than to be more careful with whoever he harasses next.

“Should have been banned for life”
    *Banned for life*
“Ackchyually should be serving a life sentence in a Texas prison. He is a threat to the public. He is a sexual predator rapist.”

“He paid the two grand juries off!”
    “He paid Sue Robinson off!”
“I know better than two Grand Juries and a former WOMAN Federal Judge!”

“But but but Calvin Ridley!” …
What the hell does Calvin Ridley (or DeAndre Hopkins PEDs or Trevor Bauer) have to do with Deshaun Watson?

    Shannon Sharpe:

“It was never going to be enough for some. Short of Deshaun Watson losing all $230 million. Short of Deshaun Watson losing the money he already made. Short of him being banned the rest of his life. Short of him being in prison for the rest of his life. That was the only punishment that would appease some.”

“When it comes to punishing someone else, it’s never enough. When it comes to punishing us, it’s always too much.”

“If a grand jury can indict a ham sandwich and had two cracks and said no. Sue Robinson had just as much information as anyone out there on TV who will talk about this. She has more information. She had a black robe for a large part of her career. She sat on the bench. Whatever she decided, I can live with. What I don’t like living with is when the commissioner comes in and is not qualified and is letting personal opinion and the public sway his decision on how much punishment someone should receive. If she gave him a year, I could live with it. If it was 2 games, I could live with that. I don’t believe she has a dog in the fight.”

I guess the year suspension by the Texans had some influence

Didn't the whole justice system already tell you this? I mean we can all agree what Bill Cosby did was way worse. And there was actual proof. But he's a free man and walked out of jail on a technicality and it doesn't seem like anyone cares.

Deshauns case was soo hard to prove. We all think there was some misconduct but we will never know to what extent. Not really sure how you expected a different outcome.

This was a "hearsay" case from the beginning. Trial by media has been brutal. However the facts are: no witnesses, no physical evidence. Reports from the victims suggests that he behaved "inappropriately" but not illegally. He didn't force anyone. Many of the accusers came back for follow up appointments which is very suspect. The fact that two grand juries chose not to indict is very telling. Time to move on.
