Can’t believe anyone is still butt hurt about us taking Stroud and not having a chance at the 1 or 2 “franchise Qb’s” next year. Ridiculous.
I was thinking about this, but in a slightly different way: how many QBs would you trade CJ Stroud for right now, taking into consideration age, salary, etc. For me, these are the no-brainers: Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert (and Herbert might not be here after this season - only because of $) After those four... here are, IMO, the only other viable candidates: Hurts? Makes a lot of money Lawrence? Has certainly flashed but has also had some long stretches of meh Lamar? Again, makes a lot of money and needs to shake the injury issue Tua? I'm genuinely not sure I'd deal Stroud for any of those last four, and I can't think of another QB in the league I'd even think about. Not Prescott. Not Purdy. Not Stafford. Not Goff. Not Love... In terms of your question, @MadMax: I think there are 7 franchise QBs. I'm still not 100% sold on Tua. Stafford certainly was, and could play to that level again (he looks good so far this year) - but he's not young. Prescott is close. Rodgers is probably in the conversation if he were healthy.
Raiders. Jets. Browns. Giants (depends of your Eli mileage). Cardinals. I think you could make a pretty compelling case for Washington and Minnesota.
I guess it would have to depend on how you define a franchise QB. For me, it's a simple question: if the NFL gave you the first pick of the next draft, would you take the hot-shot QB prospect or keep who you have? Every team/QB you listed would absolutely trade their current QB for Caleb Williams. Obviously, there are a lot of *other* factors in play (age, salary) - but generally speaking, that's kind of how I look at it. You can also do the trade game: how many QBs in the league would you trade yours for, and if you're in the 10+ range, you probably don't have a franchise QB.
Wow! No joke! I didn't realize that he was cleared medically to play on Sunday, but HE made the decision not to play. Reports are that the team was expecting him to play and were totally unprepared to go with DTR.
Yeah, I don't get it. CJ is proving to be a fast learner, and is making plays with great accuracy. He's not prone to making stupid mistakes when getting that ball into the hands of his targets. He doesn't stare down receivers, is able to move through progressions quickly, and does what it takes to make the best of the situation. With more protection, and the addition of another great WR there's no telling what his potential is. Even the addition of a top rated TE would up his game. You don't have to be #1, #2, or #3 QB to lead a team to Super Bowl wins. If I had to say there was ever a QB that was a franchise QB, it would have been Brady, simply because nobody led their team to more Super Bowls over and over like he did. Sure, there have been plenty of greats, and are plenty of guys rated above CJ right now, but I have a good feeling about CJ climbing that list the more he plays. I wouldn't trade him for anyone right now. I love his potential, his demeanor, his accuracy, and his humbleness. He's a true team leader, and we have great coaches to go along with that. I don't care one bit if a 1st or 2nd round pick next year is supposed to be better. We have a great QB, and only time will tell who is actually more capable of leading a team to Super Bowls in the years to come. My bet is on CJ.
If you understand some players will under perform your expectations, you have to admit some will exceed your expectations.
I hope they get him a top tier TE and WR. A versatile RB like Shipley or McClellan would certainly help out a lot too. Give Stroud the weapons he needs to be successful.
Exactly. That's why I am not worried about not getting the guys ranked at #1 or #2 in the draft next year. Too many unknowns. I like who we have. One thing I know, is that when we got Watson instead of Mahomes, I never would have guessed in my worst dreams how bad of a choice that would end up being. I was so mad about KC snatching Mahomes from day 1. For me, CJ has been the light at the end of that dark tunnel we left behind with a shadow of a creepy man people never really knew existed behind his facade. To better days! Cheers!
I don't think I've ever been fooled so badly by an athlete before...even if you set aside all his disgusting personal issues...what a worthless loser. So glad he's gone.
When you sell your soul knowing this guy has some very questionable "hobbies" and guarantee the entire contract and make him the highest paid QB to boot.....well, you got what ya deserve. Sorry, Not sorry
Why do you keep going to BoB? I don't give 2 ***** about where he is. All you got? Your take on CJ is SO BAD you are DESPERATE to change the subject....LOL.
You're so wrong, I'm happy Stroud has had success and hope he gets the weapons around him that will continue to give him his best chance for success.
Some knew and enabled him. Agreed about Stroud, not looking forward to having to deal with the same enablers in 3 years when Stroud comes looking for a new contract.
Shut the **** up. You were/are the biggest BOB defender in the world. Your breath smells like a tea pot you were on your knees so much with him. I’ve owned up already about being wrong about Stroud. You were still defending BOB fairly recently. “He was a good coach just not a good GM”
