Watson is going to get better and better. The Texans are "in the game" when is on and when healthy he is usually "on."
One thing I like about our Qb is that he knows how to b a leader, while we bag on the o-line for being so shtty, I don't think he has yet publicly call them out for their awful protection. He says the right thing and leads through his actions. I'm just glad we finally have a franchise qb, and one that doesn't have a big ego.
On 97.5 John and Lance were saying the other day that they thought Deshaun learned from the Dallas game this year (getting ribs crushed, then the bus ride to Jacksonville) and that made him play so much smarter. Makes a lot of sense. He's looked incredibly poised, turnovers are down, not gambling with the football when we have a good running game and defense. There will probably be a time in his career where we'll rely on him to carry the offense (e.g. Aaron Rodgers), and I believe this season of not having to do too much will help him grow into that QB.
ESPN: The NFL’s top 25 under-25 players for 2018 Spoiler: 25 players under 25 1) Patrick Mahomes 2) Tyreek Hill 3) Todd Gurley 4) Ezekiel Elliott 5) Kareem Hunt 6) Alvin Kamara 7) Christian McCaffrey 8) Danielle Hunter 9) Jared Goff 10) Myles Garrett 11) Deshaun Watson Turns 25: Sept. 14, 2020 Watson has thrown touchdown passes on 7.4 percent of his attempts, easily the highest rate through 17 starts by any player drafted over the past decade. Russell Wilson is second on that list. Mahomes has a higher percentage (8.7) but only 12 starts. "We are talking about a quarterback with exceptional, rare escapability," a defensive coach said. "He can run full-speed and then backpedal when you get him, like Michael Vick, where you have guys wrapping their arms around nothing. Then he can accurately throw from everywhere. That is his game, and they are doing a good job with him." The Texans have built a great offense for Deshaun Watson, but he also makes brilliant individual plays on a weekly basis. 12) Jamal Adams 13) Ryan Ramczyk 14) Saquan Barkley 15) Derwin James 16) Laremy Tunsil 17) JuJu Smith-Schuster 18) Tarik Cohen 19) Joe Mixon 20) Kenny Clark 21) Marshon Lattimore 22) T.J. Watt 23) Bradley Chubb 24) James Connor 25) Yannick Ngakoue
That's surprisingly low, I would have thought of the 37 sacks allowed this season at least 1/3 of them would have been on Watson holding the ball too long or directly running into them. Then again, he's been a LOT better about that since the first few games.
Fun fact, since the Denver game we've been under center 48% of the snaps vs 52% in uggs(shotgun). it was 33% undercenter from the dolphins game and prior. It's the perfect balance and I didn't we would see that from the way the first 7 games started. But it's obvious the injury to Fuller forced us to find other ways like my favorite, the 2TE package. Then there is the injury to Deshaun, which Andre Ware said he had and couldn't laugh without feeling some kind of pain. The balance also protects the Offensive line from itself. We've seen what happens to elite qbs when pressured up the middle now add both edges to that pass rush and that's what had been happening here, which only leads to rushed decisions and bad throws. I hope we never go full uggs ever again, unless it's an emergency.
