There's not really an alternative on that particular topic of App Store monopolies between Google and Apple.

Windows phone? Pirated and insecure Huawei's with cracked Google Play?

I think Nokia still sells dumb phones...

Point being that if these guys are so upset with Apple, why are they giving their money to Apple.

I would say that isn't what makes a company violate anti-trust laws. The fact that there are only two viable smartphone platforms (iOS and Android) is the bigger problem. It's a combo of a lack of competition while only providing one single way to install apps on iOS.

If there were more than only two viable choices for smartphone platforms than this wouldn't be an issue.

More competition always better, yes. But @bobrek was asking, why do they give them their money. My response was - I like their phones. Doesn't mean I cannot criticize their policies, politics, business practices.

Apple itself has more than half the smartphone marketshare in the US with iirc 200 million active phones domestically. They're considered saturated in terms of that market and have been using services to fuel further growth in earnings.

Part of that growth is the 30% cut in app transactions which is a gloriously expensive tax on the ecosystem customers unknowingly bought into, and one further cemented as "industry standard" alongside Google Play.

I get that Ronny is using Apple to score points with Elon and his followers, but it's a screwy uncompetitive situation as it is with the phone duopoly to the point where you have industry folks like Zuckerberg chiming in with support.

Apple can't levy taxes.... I don't understand the framing it as a tax on the ecosystem or whatever. It's fee or service charge or whatever business-y term you want to call it. That doesn't mean I like how much of a cut Apple is taking, but clearly Apple built and maintains the "market" in which other merchants can come sale their wares to customers.

    Capitalism allows for innovation
I remember when there was flip phones

just because a company markets themselves as woke doesn’t mean employees who work there are . It’s about money

Or when a company markets themselves as free speech-ers. It’s about money from sowing chaos.

Elon and Zuck are more similar than different.

Well... when a politician claims Apple is in bed with China and limiting free speech in America, it seems odd they'd want to do business with them.
