My gut feeling is that there are enough Republicans to decide that DeSantis is a viable option to Trump who will enact similar policies without the threat to Democracy that Trump poses.

That is questionable... many folks within the republican party including "conservatives" and "libertarians" here have connected with trump. Not so sure that unless trump is clearly out of the running they would switch horses, no matter how much desantis tries to be "trump-lite". If anything, they would think it was another part of the inside Washington plot to get trump. desantis is going to have to step up his trump impersonation like grab a woman by her privates, or insult some dead mainstream republican, or ratchet up his hate and bigoted speeches and actions...

As I said, it's nothing more than a gut feeling.

I agree, I think Desantis will give Trump a run for his money...in fact, I think what will happen is that Trump will declare DeSantis the Trump candidate as I honestly think Trump wants the influence and spotlight, but he does not want the actual job.

Disney helps people and animal species.

Disney's Conservation fund has preserved 315 Million acres of wildlife. That's 10,000 Disney World's worth of land.
They have protected 1,000 different species across half of the countries in the world.
https://impact.disney.com/environme...nservation Fund is,, monkeys, and sea turtles.

Much of their work happens in the United States.
Their efforts even responsibly help the commercial timber industry.

I'm still in favor of limiting tax benefits for hugely profitable corporations like Disney. But of all the corporations out there that need their tax breaks removed, Disney isn't at the top of the list by any means. And certainly not for speaking out against a policy with targeted bigotry such as DeSantis' bill.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/29/business/geoff-morrell-disney-out.html

Disney’s top communications executive is out after less than four months.
Geoff Morrell’s brief tenure was defined by the company’s being drawn into the partisan political fray, most notably in Florida.

    April 29, 2022

Disney parted ways with its most senior communications and government relations executive on Friday after a tumultuous two-month period in which Disney became a political punching bag, particularly for Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida.

Geoff Morrell, who joined Disney in January as chief corporate affairs officer, will leave his job immediately, the company said.

Mr. Morrell had been outspoken about a need to “modernize” Disney’s approach to communications, even though his predecessor, Zenia Mucha, ran what was widely considered a best-in-class operation. Most of his time at Disney, however, was taken up by a P.R. nightmare that started in early March when Disney declined to take a public stand on Florida school legislation that, among other things, restricts classroom discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity. The company is the state’s largest private employer.

With Disney employees in open revolt over the company’s public silence, Bob Chapek, Disney’s chief executive, then aggressively denounced the bill — only to find himself in the cross hairs of Fox News hosts and Mr. DeSantis.

Last week, Mr. DeSantis and other Republican lawmakers in Florida revoked a 1967 law that allowed Walt Disney World to function as its own quasi government.

“Fortunately, the strength and experience of our existing leadership team — including relatively new all-star hires — means there is no shortage of talent to guide our reputation-driving functions,” Mr. Chapek said in an email to senior Disney managers on Friday regarding Mr. Morrell’s departure.

Mr. Morrell previously held a similar job at BP, the fossil fuel giant, and served as the Pentagon’s press secretary during the Iraq war. “After three months in this new role, it has become clear to me that for a number of reasons it is not the right fit,” Mr. Morrell said in a note to his staff at Disney. “I have decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities.” He declined to comment further.

Mr. Morrell’s position at Disney was a new one. It combined several global functions — communications, public policy, government relations, corporate social responsibility and environmental issues — that had been distributed among Disney departments. Mr. Chapek said in his email that he would not replace Mr. Morrell but rather revert to the old structure. Most notably, Kristina Schake will become Disney’s top communications executive. She was hired this month by Mr. Morrell and will now report directly to Mr. Chapek. Ms. Schake’s résumé includes leadership positions at Instagram and on Democratic political campaigns and serving in the Obama and Biden administrations.

“Kristina has a strategic approach and collaborative style, as well as relentless optimism and a strong appreciation of our brand and its place in the world,” Mr. Chapek said. “These attributes will be invaluable as she works to protect and enhance our reputation.”

Why does the GOP want to punish corporations who speak out against them? How the party has changed since 2016......

This!! He doesn't want to take a chance to lose again and he can stay in the spotlight to his base and support who he wants.............but, its a slippery slope, if you go against his wishes the puppet master will sick the base on you so be careful what you ask for.
