...and if it's a complete disaster, you just let Rose walk after a year and use the cap space on whomever is on the market then since so many teams are going to be spending their cap dollars this summer.
I think the deal is good for the Knicks. They didn't give up a lot, and are in a better position to rebuild. Just don't go wasting cap space on a bunch of mediocre players like they have been for seemingly forever.

Man, it seems like the Rockets had an opportunity to do this by trading Dwight & miss the playoffs to be better suited for the future and a little short term for a mini-rebuild. Wow
Rose is just an All-Star. Doesn't have the same explosiveness anymore, but I think he's young enough to recover and continue to have some solid seasons in the future.
This trade makes sense for everyone. Knicks dump players and get a 1 year rental on Rose, will get a lot of space for the offfseason Bulls make Butler the man and build around him as they should do. Rose gets a change and get himself some new mojo.
Poor Porzingis, poor Knicks fans. They drafted a stud and instead of rebuilding around him properly and adding quality young healthy players, they go the opposite route. Team of old and injured has been's.
if KP was by himself, this post would make some sense but with him coming to NY with Melo already established, going that route is extremely difficult without really saying hey melo were going to waste your last few years by just adding rooks around you and focusing on developing KP.
The Knicks are soo smart that maybe we can trade D.Mo, Ariza, Beverley and fillers for Porzingis lol (hell, throw them everything minus Harden and Capela and see if they bite)
