Derrick Rose reveals pitch to LeBron [rquoter]Amid all the hoopla surrounding teams' recruiting pitches to the most heralded free agent class in NBA history this summer, the Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose took a low-key approach in his wooing of LeBron James. Rose sent James a text, the contents of which to this point were unknown. In a Sports Illustrated article out this week, Rose remembers the message reading: "I'm just hitting you up to kill all the rumors that I don't want to play with you. I'd like to play with you. I just want to win." Of course, a few days later James joined Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. The decision surprised Rose, who said James coming to Chicago seemed like a "no-brainer." "He always told me he didn't want to be on one of those stacked teams," Rose's brother Reggie told the magazine. "He wanted to be with an underdog."[/rquoter] You can read the entire SI article below on Derrick Rose. Second Coming In The Second City By discovering a Jordanesque killer instinct, point guard Derrick Rose has transformed himself into the MVP front-runner--and Chicago into a title contender.
LeBron was never going to chicago to be forever compared to Jordan. Derrick Rose as a hometown kid could carve his own legacy at Chicago, but not James. James not going to Chicago worked out well for Rose too, he is in the discussion for mvp with James and Wade is not.
If this text is all he did, it was a pathetic attempt. I still don't think D-Rose wanted LeBron in Chicago.
I don't think it was pathetic. No need for him to kiss LeBron's ass in attempt to sell him on Chicago. Looking at the players on the team should have been enough.
Rose speaking with LeBron on the phone and having a serious conversation is not kissing his rump at all. Not speaking to him was a message, IMO.
Wrong thread.. Anyone on the Rose Issue, Lebron already he had choices down to NY and Miami by then, as Chicago wasn't pushing that hard.
Yeah... I'm not a Bulls fan so I don't really care about them getting much better as a team. As an NBA fan, I'd much rather watch Derrick Rose do his own thing rather than play second-fiddle to someone else. Of course, I felt the same way about D-Wade, but whatever.
Yeah you got a point. Rose personality doesn't seem like the type of player that would be good at recruiting players though.
The Cavaliers team with Lebron were an underdog team. I think its more likely Lebron did not want to be forever compared to Jordan from day 1.
at this point, wouldn't going to chicago have been considered going to the stacked team? they've got the same record as the heat without having had lebron.
Maybe, but on paper Heat was still more stacked because people thought Bosh was top 10 talent. I don't think Chicago had enough cap to sign both Boozer and Lebron, I could be wrong though/
