Rose's PG skills are underrated in this thread. If the Bulls had some actual shooters he would average close to double digit assists. And Rose does not have a score-first mentality. He is a PG.
I think this season will be Rose's breakout year. - It's usually in year 3 where PG's really get the handle of things and start to fully understand everything and take their games to the next level. - He finally has a legit 20 point scorer in Boozer to feed inside and run the pick n roll with. - Noah will probably have some easy looks inside when Rose penetrates with the addition of Boozer and Korver. Boozer can hit the 15 footer all day while Korver spreads the court even more with 3 point shooting. - He's got Kyle Korver (actual shooter) to feed outside the perimeter to drain open 3's all day. - He has Deng and Brewer to feed. Both of whom are good finishers in transition. If the Bulls can add one more big time scorer/shooter I think they could really solidify themselves as contenders. As is they're probably good enough for 4-6th place and *should* get out of the first round.
Agreed, Rondo has developed a whole lot through the years. Being around so many accomplished veterans is such a luxurious and precious resource for a young player like Rondo. Rondo has certainly learned how to win while Derrick Rose has a lot to figure out by himself. I don't think anyone would argue that Rose is the better athlete of the two but it requires much more than that to be a better basketball player.
better pure, PASSING point guard is Rondo. If I'm starting my team today, give me Rose ANY DAY OF THE WEEK
Precisely. If you're asking about RIGHT NOW...in the real world....I want Rondo. I tend to believe those that are voting for Rose are basing it on "ifs" and extrapolations of his potential and what he "could add" to his game. Rondo doesn't need those things. He is better I'm the hear and now. Put it this way, for one possession in a championship game, I want the ball in Rondo's hands. "If" doesn't beat "done it". I think people forget Rondo was one game away from his 2nd title...carrying the old 3...
I love, love, love the potential of Rose. But IMO, he needs to take another step before I'm ready to say that right now today he's better than Rondo. Rondo's stats suffer slightly because he's got Ray-Pierce-KG to appease on the Celtics, while Rose was pressed into being an aggressive scorer on the Bulls. This year will be a good one to watch, as the playing field between them is far more level. Rondo will pick up the slack as the Celtic corpses decompose, and Rose will have a major influx of help. For now, I give the edge to Rondo since he's gone all the way and won a ring. His occasional bonkers triple double postseason lines are a major tiebreaker in my book.
Right now I think Rose will turn out to be the better player long term and edge out Rondo as far as being a complete player. Still, its tough call when you look at Rondo's rebounding and defense. They put on a good show against each other in this game in the playoffs <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4VGdrlZxb8E&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4VGdrlZxb8E&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
