all these super athletic PGs are prone to injury with their style of play, so even if he does come back I can guarantee that he was told to dial down the explosiveness.
Rose is beyond done I like how the media is hyping is return once again and still considers him even remotely close to a star. He's just dead weight eating up cap space now
I voted average at best. But I think he can reinvent himself as a quality starter. Not a star- but a decent player who can space the floor. It would help him tremendously to improve his 1 on 1 defense.
Supposedly Rose looks healthy. I'm pitching the world to Anthony and promising a healthy Rose. Then I'm shipping Rose away.
What team would buy on Rose? If most people here see him as Average to done then the managers have to see that . . . .. right? Rocket River
I don't see how Rose is ever going to be the player he once was or anything close to it. So much of his game relied on athleticism and the ability to change directions in split seconds. That ability made him so dangerous. After two major knee surgeries, no way that ability is there anymore. And even then, if he can still do those types of moves; he is one false step into having another major knee injury. Rose was never a good three point shooter or the "elite" play makers everyone things he was. He made plays with his super athleticism not on knowing the game like a Steve Nash or Chris Paul. So unless he has worked hard on his three point shot or worked on his playmaking, I don't see how Rose can be elite or anything close to that. Look how he played when he came back the first time; he was rusty, but he didn't move anywhere close to how he moved before the injury. Now after a second injury, who knows... I think that's going to scare a lot of FA from joining. If Rose was anywhere close to where he was before the injuries, Melo would be an idiot not to join the Bulls. That's a perfect system for him. But Rose is such a huge part of what the Bulls can offer that I don't think many top FA would want to take that risk.
I just think D Rose doesn't have the mental wherewithal to be able to come back as a star... I mean look at AP. Dude had 9 months and killed it when he got back. Rose looked out of shape and mentally rusty. He's had another year off and is gonna be spending his prime years trying to overcome not only his knees, but his belief that they won't be the same. He will be good and hopefully improve his shooting, but he won't ever be a superstar again.
I think he'll be back to 100%. If you recall last season, he did regain his athleticism back, he was just really rusty. Besides, the second injury wasn't nearly as bad as the first one.
Just can't see it the guy has literally been out for almost two years. Has anyone taken off that much time and regained MVP form?
I think the Rose we know is gone. However, I think he's going to become an excellent shooter and an improved defender. In that sense, I can see him being as effective a player as he was, but no better. He'll be an entirely different player. Now, is that a risk I would accept if I were Carmelo Anthony? Hell no. Melo could really annihilate his chances of winning a ring if Rose doesn't bounce back + it won't be in his hometown.

Yeah he was, maybe he wasn't deserving of MVP, but when healthy Chicago had the best record in the East for two seasons. Even without Melo, Chicago if Rose is even 75% of his old self, will be a force in the East and likely the best team in the East. Butler will get better, McDermott fills a scoring void, Gibson is terrific and will be starting, and Noah is just an amazing center. Add in Rose and Thibs, thats a group of guys who just want to go out an win basketball games. No crying, no whining, just pure business night in night out.
This is what I was thinking. He's quite possibly soon to be one of the worst contracts in the NBA, if he isn't already. Could it be that the owner would rather have him out all year due to medical reasons and having a chunk of his salary covered by outsiders versus having him come in and play at an average/slightly above average level and pay him the max? I'm going to say the latter, but it's sad when you say that about a guy that was fnamed MVP as little as 2-3 years ago.
A small guard who relied largely on athleticism, Rose will never be the same again after missing two years due to two major injuries. If Rose wants to extend his career he has to change his game and become a better floor general and a better shooter. It will be hard. At this point he is closer to a bad contract than an all-star player.
For some strange reason, I'd actually like to see Melo go to the Bulls and then realize he's got another Amare on his team.
