Props are dumb. Just because you use a prop doesn't mean its a better dunk.

Griffins dunk over the kia wasn't impressive at all.

so MJ should have used a prop instead of doing his FT line dunks?

It's entertainment. After a while the dunk contest gets boring and in fact faded for a while. You can't top Jordan's dunk. It wasn't that he jumped from the free throw line, it was the style he did it with.

And B.G. shows a lot of style tonight. He just didn't do his dunks, he did it by killing it and with so much power.

Derozen's dunks were awesome, but that first one...you can argue it's been done before as well. He just gets up so high. I think it should have been him vs. Griffin in the final but that 44 killed him.

IMO, DeRozan did have the dunk of the night.

Initially, I didn't mind the props. But if what Griffin did is a prelude of what's about to come, then the NBA needs to stop it now. That was just too damn much for a mediocre dunk.

I'm also tired of people that keep saying, "all of the dunks have been done". People have been saying this since the late 90s... then guys like Vince Carter and Jason Richardson come out and does dunks people have never even imagined.

NBA needs to think of ways to influence creativity, and a way to keep the actual best dunkers joining the contest.

Yeah there's variations that still look great, like Richardson changing the under the leg dunk.

JR smith's behind the back is also one that hasnt been copied and could still be improved. I also liked Darvin ham's backboard touch. That could also be improved.

It's also about their own style. Francis didn't do anything too unique, but his style was different and that really made his dunks pop. Rose is one guy who has his own style and would bring a new flair to old dunks.

Next year they should invite these guys:

    Rose
    DeRozan
    Griffin
    Eyenga
    S Brown
    Westbrook

Brown sort of bombed the last time, except for one dunk, but i think with better preparation he could actially win it.

The props are definitely okay. Its that the dunk planners need to make up their mind if its an actual CONTEST, or if its just reality show style entertainment starring NBA dunkers.

    If the contest had
    - 4 dunkers,
    - 3 dunks each,
    - NO elimination round, all the dunkers get their full 3 dunks,
    - Better precision scoring, get rid of the round numbers,

then you can regulate the amount of props used. Because the dunkers will know ahead of time they won't have to "save" anything and that they can perform to the fullest.

The rule can be you only get to use ONE prop, or you HAVE to do one dunk with NO prop, etc. Then it would be left up to the precision scores to decide the winner.

I recorded the sat night nba competitions and didnt get the last dunks on my dvr due to the excessive props and missed attempts. i know i should have added some time like i do for rockets games, but it slipped my mind.

I dont mind some props, but they need to include the prop setup in their time. Stopping their time to fix a prop shouldnt be allowed. In all reality Blake got like 10+ minutes with his last dunk including the choir and car being rolled out.

Simple props, like the cape, or cupcake are fine, but this mom delivering the ball and getting a piece of Dr. J is r****ded.

Dunk contest should be like a game of H-O-R-S-E.. would be fun to see all contestants try the same dunks and would inspire creativity that would catch others off guard during the game

All four dunkers were good, but I think Ibaka should have made it to the finals based on his FT dunk alone.

speaking of dunk contest, anyone remember that nationwide dunk contest show on espn in 2000 or so, where the contestant represent their city and compete against other cities/contestant? I remember some guy in Ny winning and jumping over a car, actually over the top of it.... not the hood...

Anyways what was that show called? and who was that guy?
