If there is no protection on the Nets 2011 pick, what a deal for Utah. My goodness. Great deal for New Jersey too. Denver must hate that Utah was able to pull that off when the superstar they were dealing with was restricting who they could trade with.

Even if it's not that bright, put Utah on the list of Western Conference teams that currently have a brighter future than the Rockets.

Rockets have NO ASSETS close to Favors and two potential lottery picks. I can't see how they could compete for Williams.

It would be easier to trade Scola to the Nets now that Favors is gone!

I'm just not sure what we'd want from their roster.

while true, it doesn't take the sting away from knowing that NJ was our best trade partner to get picks/talent.

Now Utah is free to select Jimmer to pair with Hayward. :)

For Deron Williams, that is definitely an offer they could refuse.

Their plan B was better than their plan A but only if Deron stays there.

IF they do....this is about the second time in the last 10 years they've been able to decline, fall and rebuild more quickly than the Rockets.

We were at the dawn of the failed Yao era when they were still going Stockton to Malone.

They reloaded to Boozer-Williams-Kirilenko-Okur, and are now reloading again.

Meanwhile we are still paying Yao.

But at least Les' Chinese private equity is doing well.

Maybe. But if they thought he was going to leave, they got a REALLY good deal for him. Favors + top 10 pick in 2011 draft + Devin Harris (trade him?). Add to that the Warriors pick and I think the Jazz GM did a heck of a job.

per NBAdraft.net - which could be wrong -

Nets receive the Warriors' 2011 first-round pick (lottery protected in 2011, top 11 protected in 2012, top 10 protected in 2013, if not conveyed by 2013, Nets will instead receive the Warriors' 2013 and 2015 second-round picks) (Marcus Williams trade 07-22-08

So is it 1-7 protected or top 11 protected?

The Warriors seem to hover right around that top 10 pick every year, so I do foresee Utah getting a pick around 12 or 13 out of it in the future.

The Nets are currently slotted at the 6 pick. Does adding Deron immediately improve them so that they pass up Detroit, Milwaukee, Charlotte...? Possibly.

So, a pick around 8-10 this year a pick around 11-13 next year or the following year, Favors and Harris. A decent haul.

Then again, as someone noted, Utah is likely to pick Jimmer and some other flop.

Whoa unprotected Nets 2011 1st? Not surprised, Williams is an elite superstar in this league. This is a great deal for both teams, you rarely see that.

Well, last really high pick they had, they took Deron I think (and have had late draft success with Millsap/Kirilenko).

Don't get me wrong, I hope Utah picks a flip, but their drafting isn't horrible.
