All of Howard's hemming and hawwing and bickering is so he can keep his extra $30 mil in his true max. Going to his preferred location WITH full pay, get his cake and eat it too. Its not like Miami where they're sacrificing money, Howard wants his full cut lol. If Howard wanted to accept a cheaper salary, he wouldn't have re-upped an extra year with Orlando to retain is bird rights and full raises. He'da just went on the market this year like everyone else, and he'd be signing with the Nets right now with Deron. But Deron aint gonna get his full pay, while Dwight accepts less.
Awesome news for the Wizard! THe Mavs master plan goes awry, and we have one less competitor for Dragic. Of course the Mavs could hit the panic button and go after Dragic, but we'll cross the bridge when we get there.
Really, a tough decision?? You are going to make a $100 million with a team that did everything to keep you happy!!
At least he has a decent backcourt for the next couple of seasons. When this contract ends, Deron will be 33, and Johnson is already 31 though. I do think it's a tad bit of an overpay for Deron, who hasn't had a full healthy season since 07/08 and shoots 35% from behind the arc. But then... there just aren't many PGs who have a PER of 19 or 20.
Good news for Nets! although i really hope they can also get Howard next step, can they afford him? they has already had Johnson.

...Wait, don't contracts have to be paper? Is this legally binding? Can someone with legal experience explain?
There are digital signatures that can stand up now, and I know emails saying "I agree" can stand up in court on many matters. I'm not a lawyer; nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night though.
great signing, now they can definitely win 42 games with the addition of JJ. Playoffs in the east!!!yeay!!!!
So... what the hell is wrong with the Nets and how do you fix them? I am guessing Avery Johnson is on the hot seat but don't know what replacing him will fix. The team is just rather flawed. They have flawed roster and no flexibility to fix it. Edit: From a Nets fan:
Deron Williams was really really good... close to unstoppable in Jerry Sloan's pick'n'roll system. Nets needs to find a coach who can utilizes DWill properly.
Speed and spacing. I don't get them. Deron, Wallace and Johnson can all hit a 3. But they hardly ever have 3 guys outside the 3pt line. If they do, it's usually with the clock under 10 seconds, and at that point it's hero ball, desperate post up or contested jumper time. They are also slow running up the court, so it makes the clock issue worse. They try to run P&R, but it's hard to run P&R well with 3 guys within 15 ft from the basket. Often, their P&R is Lopez coming out to set a pick at the 3pt line, with a wall of people around the paint. Probably they need a new coach. I just don't understand them, they don't have great pieces, but they have pieces to make it work better than this. Humphries is a spacing problem, but the other guys should move back. Maybe they should take a chance on someone like Delonte West and go smaller, with Johnson at 3 and Wallace at 4 and space it, also run more. It also seems like they blew it with the Teletovic signing. I think they wanted to find a Ryan Anderson type to play next to Dwight Howard. I didn't like it then, I thought there were many better Euros to sign. But without Howard, and with Blatche playing well, it's just a wasted midlevel exception. I think they should find a small defender/shooter at minimum salary, probably a new coach, and then wait for the summer. Look for some decent bench guys. They don't need to gamble on Teletovic types, they are in Brooklyn. They can get cheap proven vets. Also, they'll have to look at what they can get for Humphries expiring. They'll have to take some risks, but I don't think it's hopeless if they keep spending like this. They aren't contenders this year, though.
Is your tongue jammed firmly against your cheek? I guess it's still early in the season and they could turn it around, but how much did the Nets spend on salaries this off season? $250 million or something like that? This really shows you how important it is to not overpay for B grade talent with little upside.
