Considering the Nets will have to top 10 pick for sure, good young piece in M Brooks, and will be in NYC...i think that would be my choice. They can also take more money there and have more space to fill in role players. They can be loved by all the people in NYC and have a decent bandwagon following across the US or they can be hated like the Heat for an obvious planned teaming up in Dallas

If the Nets don't get Howard, Deron is as good as gone.

Still, if Deron leaves, I can't fault Nets management for trading for him. They've been irrevelant too long, always in the shadow of the Knicks, they need a solid team if they're going to move to Brooklyn.

Still think Howard and Deron sign in Brooklyn, but maybe that's my NY bias.

Having lived in NJ during the Jason Kidd years, I can't help but like the Nets franchise and I really feel bad for them since it looks like Deron is pretty much gone. But that doesn't make what he said any less true: I've never been to a worse arena than the Nets'. Even when they were still relevant, their stadium was generally pretty empty, and I can't imagine that's gotten any better since they suck and are playing for a crowd that knows they're leaving soon. I really hope they get some decent fans in Brooklyn, but I don't think Deron's gonna be around to meet them...

So what youre saying is Dwight is gonna go sign a 1 yr deal with the Nets then sign a multi-year deal with the Mavs?

    That's probably true.

I remember that one Nets game where only 30 people showed up. people said it was because of the snow storm, but i doubt that was the reason why nobody showed up.

    Wait, I don't understand.
Are you saying he had the "good fortune" of having the Lakers/Rox/Hornets trade overturned or that he was one of the owners that protested against the trade(Which I believe he wasn't).

Also, I think it's more of "What owners of teams in non-major markets" want they tend to get these days(Not in terms of player signings for their teams but in terms of making the commish bow to their wishes)

Cuban was vocal against both the LAL and LAC Chris Paul trades.

I think it's the worst kept secret in the league that Deron Williams is going to end up in Dallas next season. Dallas is clearing all the space they can to make a run at him and Dwight Howard and it looks for all the world like D-Will wants to play at home.

I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that Dallas can afford to offer Howard and Williams max deals (and keep Dirk) if they can get rid of Shawn Marion.

Max or near max. Correct, they need to move Marion for an expiring contract and they can amnesty Haywood.

    That would leave them with
    Williams
    Carter
    ???
    Dirk
    Howard

With Odom coming off the bench. Terry would probably stay, Cuban doesn't mind paying the tax, and they could probably get some cheap vets (although they'd be competing with other contenders for those).

If they get some good supporting players who can space the floor and play D, and if Dirk plays even around 75% of how he played during the last playoffs, they'd be favorites to win it all.

Maybe not so fast on my last post and just amnestying Haywood and trading Marion and being able to offer max/near max deals. Damn me. :p Here are 3 takes from 3 different guys.

Berger: The most room Dallas could possibly have is $29.4 million, according to league salary sheets. To do it, they would have to: 1) amnesty Brendan Haywood; 2) trade Shawn Marion; 3) waive Brandan Wright and Sean Williams; and 4), the kicker, trade Lamar Odom and Carter by March 15 for expiring contracts. Even then, they would be about $3 million shy of offering Howard and Williams max deals.

Stein: Specifically? Dallas would likely have to release Brendan Haywood through the amnesty clause next summer, trade away Shawn Marion without taking back any salary and also give away young guards Roddy Beaubois and Dominique Jones, while also letting free agents-to-be Jason Terry, Lamar Odom, Vince Carter and Delonte West walk.

One big factor, of course, is what the 2012 cap number will be.

In any case, it won't be easy for the Mavs to clear "two max" room. In particular, Shawn Marion's contract is not expiring after 2013, instead he is owed $9 mil more for 2013-2014. He is a decent player, but aging (will be 36 by the time the contract ends). So, rebuilding teams probably won't want to take on an expensive veteran right now and and teams with designs on 2013 cap room will also be averse to taking him on.

Remember what the Knicks had to do to get the Rockets to eat 1 year of Jared Jeffries salary (roughly $6 or 7 million)? Marion is owed $18 mil for 2 years.

New Jersey sucks ass but Brooklyn is a whole different story altogether. New arena and everything.

Not exactly - Dallas has to clear the deck, including renouncing their rights to Terry, Carter, and Kidd. Odom is dead certain to be gone ($2.6M buyout for next season).

Beaubois will probably go as a carrot to facilitate someone taking Marion (or Odom) off their hands.

The big question is whether they show their hand and move Marion midseason. They need him for this year's postseason run, but it's risky to hold on to him and depend on a team with cap space taking him for a TE in the summer - why do Cuban the favor? It could be easier to flip him today (with cash and a second rounder...or Beaubois) for a bunk player on a larger expiring deal (saving the other team cash short term and improving their roster). A guy like Chris Kaman, for instance. Ray Allen could be another target.

Are the Nets really that bad in Talent when healthy? They have a close to 20-10 Center, Lopze is not usually going to hit that 10 rebound mark but having a center who can block shots and is VERY offensively skilled to be a 20 point scorer is a rarity. Then at PF you have a utility guy in humphries who is also good for 10-10 and can clean up the boards. AT point you have an all star PG in Deron and at SG you have Brooks who has been a pleasant surprise and can be a 15ppg. They have a hole at sf, but with farmar and Morrow have a good backup bench, need a few pieces, but are they really that bad?
