If GSW offered $37M, there is nothing we can do, and I am sure happy that it is not us who are offering $37M.
u have to give the Jazz management credit. thus far, they came out WAY above expectations. Keeping Arroyo for so cheap and signing Boozer to a very fair contract.
Damon Jones isn't signing for anything less than 30 million .. So signing him at or less than the MLE will be a coup for the Rockets. Rafer Alston 6 years and 29 million.. Derek Fisher at 6 years and 37 million... I like our chances at doing a smart business decision
Since everyone here seems to be obsessed with assist/turnover ratio, it should be noted that for his career Van Exel has a very good A/TO ratio. If we can get him for one of our power forwards, I would love to get Van Exel. I think if he goes to the right team, Van Exel will have a Sam Cassell type of season next season.
I know. That is too bad. Maybe NVE for Spoon+Pike+AG+(whatelse scrub do we have?) Or NVE for MoT+Pike, although I don't feel so bad about MoT's contract this summer.
What would have been the point of the offer? Utah has a truckload of caproom that dwarfs the Rockets MLE. There was no way of getting him and IMO our full MLE for 4+ years was overpaying. But if we're patient, we may wind up with two players for what we would have paid Arroyo (Damon Jones and Keon Clark are two of many examples).
Houston trades: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.7 minutes) PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes) Houston receives: PF Popeye Jones (0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.0 minutes) PG Nick Van Exel (12.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Change in team outlook: -3.9 ppg, -6.1 rpg, and +3.3 apg. Golden State trades: PF Popeye Jones (0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.0 minutes) PG Nick Van Exel (12.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) Golden State receives: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 52 games) PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 75 games) Change in team outlook: +3.9 ppg, +6.1 rpg, and -3.3 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and Golden State being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Golden State had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. I'd love it! We'd get rid of two horrible contracts for a player who can actually hit clutch shots...and who will be much more easily tradable than those two guys! Thank you very much!
Back when we were trading for T-mac, didn't Doc make some reference to "warrior for warrior." I know MoT wasn't one, but does anyone know if Howard or Weatherspoon was ever a GSW? Won't they be a little slim at power forward? Just a thought. Even if that is not the case, I would love to get Speedy.
Are bench would suck without Mo Taylor! We would have no depth, I don't mind getting rid of Spoon though
I like Derek Fisher - I don't like Derek Fisher at $6 mil per until he's 36. I like Damon Jones. I like DJ at 4 million a year for 4 years. I like Antonio Daniels. I REALLY like him at his current value. We've b****ed for years about overpaying guys. Fish is good - he's not $6 mill good! Let's break down our needs - a guy who can dribble, is unselfish, can hit the outside shot, can play defense, is relatively young and can beat the :08 second clock and will not DRIBBLE, DRIBBLE, DRIBBLE....any ideas? Damon Jones? Antonio Daniels? OR....a TRADE THAT COMES OUT OF NOWHERE!!! Hmm....
WOW! Talk about overpaying! But then again, that's what the market is baring. I am glad the Rocekts didn't give him the FULL MLE like the Warriors did. What are the Warriors going to do with 3PGs now? NVE has to be moved somewhere you would think.
