plz dont tell me u are talking about ollie. Which is another moochie. If we can get mcinnis i would but i doubt we can.
Imagine what TJ Ford could do for this team. A superb passing, good defending point guard to run this offense is what the Rockets need. TJ will improve his shooting game and I'm sure his shooting abilities are on par with Fisher's. If there is a trade out there that the Bucks would take for Ford that would be a great deal. Of course if I was Milwaukee I wouldn't trade him.
No mistake (career stats) 3590shots/544games=6.59 spg I thought the Rockets were looking for a starting point guard, Fisher has been mostly a backup/role player most of his career. Rox have enough backups. Don't think he has much upside at this point in his career along with lack of height, inconsistency. Don't think he is worth the whole exception and I would rather spend the whole exception on someone younger, faster, bigger.
I'm a HUGE UT fan, but I'll be impressed if TJ is still playing ball by the time he's 28. That guy's back is a serious question mark, and the main reason he left Texas early. I think a healthy TJ would be perfect for this team. But lets face it, TJ is far from healthy.
Exactly. He’s not a starting caliber point guard. I mean 6 shots a game? Who’s going to respect a player that only takes only 6 shots a game? The opposing point guard gets to pretty much have a day off on the defensive end. If I’m the defense and my options are (1) Give Fisher all the open shots he wants so he can score 10 points or (2) Single cover Yao or Mcgrady so they can score 35+ points, I think I would be inclined to go with option 1.
Err, I think that Pat was being sarcastic with the 15-20 spg comment because that's what Steve used to put up. I don't think 6 shots per game is that big a deal from someone that's played most of his career with Shaq and Kobe.
Are we now measure the value of a player based on the number of shots per game? How stupid is that? With Shaq and Kobe, there aren't exactly a lot of shots to go around. And as a Rockets fan, every time Fisher gets an open three, I'm usually cussing out Francis on my TV screen. The guy nails daggers. The guy starts more than 70% of the Laker games during the 3 year championship run and all the sudden he is deem not starting caliber. Doesn't make sense. Just say no to Snow.
I just get tired of people saying Derek Fisher will make teams respect him and spread the defense. Teams don’t respect Fisher. He’s not going to make you pay by going off for 20 points. He doesn’t spread the defense. Shaq takes practically all of his shots with 2 or 3 guys hanging off his back.
I hope they don't sign Fisher. He's an average player at best. He can't pass and he's not a good shooter. Other than that he's great.
Its not like they are playing 3 on 3. There are two other people on the floor (JJ and Howard). All the Rockets want Fisher to do is distribute the ball and not make too many turnovers. Obviously, Fisher shooting only 6.59 spg didn’t hurt the Lakers.
People view his success with the Lakers and believe it'll carry over to the Rockets. The logical correlation is lost on me. These are the same people who thought Piatkowski would open up opportunities and duplicate the inside-out success of Hakeem's championship teams. Yao isn't Shaq or Hakeem. Also, if this was the philosophy, Brent Barry wouldve been a much better fit. Since we can't get Barry, why should we sign someone just because "they're available". Fisher will probably want more money than he made in his prime, which was 2 years ago. He's serviceable but at what price? He should not get anything close to what Brent Barry received. Derek Fisher (13.1 p/40, 3.4 r/40, 4.2 a/40) -- Role players on championship teams invariably are overrated and end up with absurd contracts (think B.J. Armstrong, Devean George, or Luc Longley). Fisher is primed to be this year's example. He opted out of a deal that would have paid him $3 million and presumably will make more, even though point guards who are as good or better (Carlos Arroyo, Damon Jones, Bob Sura) are widely available for much less.
Look at it this way...would what Fisher can bring that is better than Lue/Wilks THIS season (because after that, one can safely assume that he will be past his prime) be worth ~$ 22-25 mio. or even more over the next four seasons and hurting our cap for years? My answer would be no. Looking at some of the deals CD has made in the past...let's see what happens.
Whether you like Fish or not, he is really the only good choice left out there. 1. Hudson- JVG doesn't like him, plays too streaky. 2. Snow- Can't shoot, period. 3. NVE- Probably won't opt-out of 12M, if not, must be traded. 4. D. Jones- Just not starter material for this team, better backup.

I've seen posts similar to this all over this BBS lately and can't say that I know exactly what that means. His stats certainly look like starter material to me. Just because he has been a backup for the majority of his career doesn't meen that he hasn't finally matured to the level where he can handle a starting role. Am I missing something?
