He's 6-11, 230 and gives you 7 ppg, 6 rpg, and 1 bpg as a back-up center. I think that's pretty freaking good for a back-up big man. How is that any different then what Cato gave us and he was VERY valuable. And Battie is athletic.
I really don't want Fisher on our team, but he'd do a decent job. I guess if that's who is left, and the Rockets feel we HAVE to have a good PG THIS year, I'm sure they will give him the same thing they offered Barry: Full MLE for 4 years. And, under the current market, that's fair, considering what everyone else is going for. That doesn't mean I like it, but its the going price. That's better than giving 6 years to Snow.
I had to point out that I agree with everything (except, maybe, the "better than Barry", but I don't know either way on that) you mention here; HAD to point it out, mind you, because this is the only time we've agreed in the history of this board (the Democrat-Republican thing )
Matt Jackson brought up that Nick Van Exel is an option for the Rockets and I'd take that. He got injured last year, but, then again, Fisher, Snow, Hudson, Barry, those guys were injured as well so it happens.
Um, 'scuse me, but where exactly is the evidence that Fisher is going to sign with us? (Or, from the anti- point of view, where's the evidence that we've offered him the kind of money he's looking for?) All I see in this thread is a vague paraphrase that he's planning to go to a similar situation, whatever that means.
Fisher sounds like he knows where he is going already. I say Miami & LA are the teams that will pay him the "bucks" he is looking for as his jersey is promoting
I agree on Battie. He isnt ancient either. He is in his 7 or 8th year. He puts up nice numbers, 7/6 as mentioned above. That's damn good for a backup center. What I really like his his mobility. He can guard the quicker PFs in the west like Duncan, Dirk etc. We need that kind of player on this team. Taylor and Howard just dont have the quickness. Plus Battie is a shot blocker. When Yao is out of the game people will drive to the basket with abandon. With Battie in there he would at least be a shot blocking presence much like Cato was. Battie also has a decent contract. 4.8M for 2 more years. That is chump change comparred to what these other guys are getting on the open market!
To me,Fisher is a good role player, who can play defense, and is streaky 3 point shooter.Being a veteran with playoff/championship experience counts for a lot too. If they go get him I'd have to agree....no more than 3 -4 million/year. That being said,I'm not sure we need a traditional point guard in the starting lineup.Lets get some size..6-4- 6-6w/the ability to play d and hit the outside shot. The offense is going to run through Yao and T Mac.I would have preferred Barry.
same here...I think a lot of us just want more size than the 6-3 and under we have seen, with defensive spunk...Barry would have offered that. Still I wouldn't be disappointed more than slightly by Fisher, because I do think he is solid.
Exactly. He is an absolute steal if the Rockets could get him somehow. The only problem with getting Battie is that it would hurt the Rockets chances at getting Van Exel if the needed rose for then to go after Van Exel, unless Golden State takes one of our contract guys. Then again, Battie and Fisher or Hudson or Daniels would be great.
On Battie...I like the idea of picking up a 4/5,but would prefer a banger/rebounder/enforcer,to mix with Howard.Trade MoTay and his big contract.
I think Fisher would be perfect. I've always wanted him from the start. And while he does flop, I've never had a problem with it because the Lakers have always been my second favorite team. Trust me, all you guys complaining about his flops are gonna love it when he's drawing them for us in clutch situations. And I guess I'm in the minority thinking he's worth most if not all of the MLE.
I too would have to agree Dfish would be a great fit here! IMO he is the strongest defender that we have talked about adding at the pg and he already knows how to handle the whole two star thing. It's not like he is comnig in here not knowing what he is getting himself into along with the fact that he is a SMART ball player who IS capable of making good decsions and running a fast break. In addition it seems to me that a lot people are worried about our depth but I have to disagree. If we sign a pg we are already deeper at this position than last year. Lue has to be an upgrade over MJackson (although I thought he did a great job considering his age and all). The two Tmac/pike/agriffin no expanation needed. The three we are a better off simply due to the extra exp of Boki along w/jj. The four perhaps we lost some defense but we should gain some of that back just in offense from Howard and dependable numbers every night. The five is the only position we are truly hurting depth wise due to cato's departure but as long as we don't overpay for a center we have to be a deeper ball club! lue piatkowski nachbar taylor mihm (just because thats who i'd pick up) three of these guys have been starters, nachbar has shown promise and its not like we want our backup five on the court that long anyhow. we just need someone serviceable. I for one hope we will be welcoming Dfish aboard as a Rox!
I was going to quote about 6 other posts that say the same thing, but yours is succinct. If he gets the full MLE, I'm gonna be one angry camper. He ain't worth it. Target Daniels in a trade or sign Jones before you shell out rediculous bucks for Fisher. We can get by next season without being locked into another overlarge contract for a 1. I could even live with Ward, although I don't want us to get him, either, before I'd see us pay the full MLE to Fish. Get Daniels, CD! And if not Daniels, try to get a point out of the Cavs, with Battie, for the TE. Something besides the full MLE for Fish. We don't need him that bad.
