A three-year 11-million deal would be ideal. If we give him the full MLE, I'll be pissed unless it's for two years. I was actually a little sorry this morning that we didn't get Brent Barry, because despite what I was posting yesterday, I do sort of worry that we may have lost out on the best backcourt complement to Yao and T-Mac available for a few years. However, I'd be content with Fisher for a reasonable amount of money and time.
Actually, that is a good call. The Heat might be looking for a PG, moving Wade to the 2 and Jones to the 3. So Fisher to the Heat is a possibility.
If that is the case then we should have signed Barry. Barry at FULL MLE is a much better "value" than Fisher at that amount.
Fisher does play good D and can hit the OPEN shot, but he can't do much else. He is an okay passer also. He won't ever create his own shot, and he really is not THAT great of a shooter if you look at his career. He is kind of like a limited Kenny Smith. Too bad Barry is gone. Is Fisher really the next best thing out there??!!
Thanks for the link. But I thinl there is a typo there. It shows that Fisher averaged about 6.something shots a game. That has to be wrong. Don't point guards usually take 15 - 20 shots a game?
Fisher does know his role and performs it well. I think that's enough for this team. Afterall, T-Mac will be the guy to handle the ball most of the time. His championship experience is invaluabe too. He stepped up his game in the playoff. He would be a nice pickup at the right price, a perfect role player for Yao and TMac.
As long as he doesn't shoot 29% from behind the arc like he did last year, this is probably the best of what is left out there. But damn...he was as terrible during the regular season last year as he was great in the playoffs.
My feelings exactly. At this point the talent that is out there is so even lets just let the market pan out. Let the other teams spend all of their MLE on mediocer players and when there is no more money floating around lets step up and sign some one like Jones or James to a contract that will be cap friendly. Maybe we can even get a Steven Hunter for cheap. I would much prefer to try and find a top level player using the trade exception. I wonder who CD and JVG have targeted.
I'm predicting a four-year deal worth about $18-19 million. (4 mil. + 10% raises) Would I give him that? No. But I'm not GM.
I too would rather do nothing than pay that kind of money to Fisher. I have a problem with how much he uses the flop on defense. A flop is only good defense when the call goes on the other team. Many times the call goes against Fisher. That is not good defense. Other times it is a no-call. When you are on the ground and the play is still going on, that is not good defense.
Maybe I am just ignorant for not following the Cavs, but what's so great about Tony Battie? On paper, the guy seems mediocre at best.
Look for Fisher to sign with Rox this week I think he was waiting for Shaq to make his decision before he make his...because he definitely don't want to leave LA if Shaq and Kobe is still there. I think that's why u don't hear any deal agree upon between Fisher and Rox. Now that Shaq is gone, look for Fisher to sign with Rox.
Why the negativity towards Fisher? He's a solid acquisition, IMO. 1) High character guy 2) Playoff experience 3) CHAMPIONSHIP experience 4) Can hit three's 5) Has experience playing with a dominant big man 6) Has experience playing with a dominant wing player 7) Isn't going to demand touches or shots 8) Is accustomed to the limelight 9) Acceptable defensive player with good quickness 10) Ability to hit clutch shots (right Mr. Duncan?) I think he's the best fit for our system, even better than Barry.
