LMFAO He has used his family and ill daughter every time he doesn't like where he was traded.... the guy is something else. I am sure his family will be used as an excuse when he wants to keep the whole 5/25 but not coach in 3-4 years from now.

He is amazing.... was never a "good player" and really hasn't been passable for years, yet the man still makes money and ends up where he wants.

I guess I hate the Knicks now.

My guess is that as soon as a better coaching gig opens up, he'll cite his daughter's eye cancer to be released from the team and coach elsewhere like he always does.

By now Spo can stand on his own feet, I believe.

Fisher is very well respected by front offices and players.... he has been around the NBA for a very long time, played under great coaches and has been asked to carry out the plays and orders as a PG at the highest level.
He will be surrounded by experienced assistants, so he may prove to be a very good to great coach (Riley, Jackson, Rivers, Russell, etc were player first).

Coach for the Knicks, then 10 games in, he leaves for the Thunder?

Now Fisher just need to round up Kurt Rambis, Luke Walton, and Tyrone Lue so they can truly implement the triangle.

Difference is that we all know that Phil really wanted Steve Kerr, who chose to go to GSW.

Riley hand-picked Spo to be his successor in Miami.

Luke Walton for Offensive Coordinator. Kwame Brown for defensive coordinator. Smush Parker as Assistant Coach, Phil get it done.

I can understand rebuilding teams wanting a rookie head coach (a la Brad Stevens for the Celtics) because they're not planning on winning anything that year / for a few years, anyway.

What I don't understand is why the Knicks, arguably in win-now mode (with Melo probably about to leave and an aging Chandler, broken Amar'e, etc) are going ahead with a rookie head coach. I think they only have one player on their roster who had an instrumental part in winning a 'ship, in Chandler, so it's not a Kidd/Garnett/Pierce situation where the experience from the players outweigh the inexperience from the head coach.

I just don't understand why they don't make a play for Thibs (a la Clips with Doc) or for a more experienced coach (Hollins, etc).

Say what you will about Dolan but he doesn't have any problems spending the Knicks cash. They're paying PJ 60M, DFish 25M and Mills must be making at least 2M as President of MSG, they'll bring in a GM soon for another 6-10M. Dolan will be paying 25M a year for a front office that most teams pay less than 8M a yr for.
