Yes after the headline basso gave this thread, we all deserve to gloat. The fact that basso tried to tie this faux attack on Obama is shameful. He has not once denounced any of the threats screamed out at McCain/Palin/GOP rallies. He hasn't denounced any of them. He hasn't denounced the McCain worker in VA who wrote a racist article for the paper, he hasn't denounced joe the plumber's lies, and has defended Palin as being qualified because of Russia, and posted articles bragging about her being a wal-mart shopper. This one blew up in his face more than the others. The thread title alone asks for any Obama supporter to stop by and laugh at the egg on his face.
I'm telling you, if Obama wants to solidify this thing even more than he already has, he needs to make a point of saying, "This woman obviously cares a great deal for Senator McCain to go through all this trouble. What Ashley needs is understanding and compassion, not scorn. We need to tell people like her that we understand their passion, and that we fully support their right to champion their candidate without resorting to extreme measures. Ashley, we are there for you." Or something like that.

Truthfully, as an Obama supporter, when I read this yesterday I thought the charge that she must be faking was pretty insensitive as well. It is to your credit that you will stay around and admit when you turn out to be wrong. If the tone of the discourse is going to change, someone is going to have to stick their neck out first. It really would be very low risk for Obama to do this since he appears to have a decent lead, and it would reinforce his core message of, "Change you can believe in.” It would really resonate this close to the election. I think dandorotik's idea is very wise. To win the war you need to be able to secure the peace, etc. It would show someone who is willing to bury the hatchet and lead by consensus (assuming he does win).

Posting something about this isn't as bad, but trying to link it to Obama and his message is ridiculous and that's what made it backfire so hard. basso's attempt to be divisive blew up in his face. Yes, but the polls have consistently shown that the negative is turning people off. People want the truth- they want someone they feel cares about all Americans- love your enemy as yourself- you know, all that stuff. I'm telling you, Obama takes the high road here - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, MAKES A BIG DEAL ABOUT IT- and he's a shoo-in.

I'd like to think that I'd wait for all the facts, but I'm not 100% how I would react if it was an Obama supporter claiming that a "J" was carved into her by a McCain supporter. Some Obama people did act insensitively too and I'm sure it would have enraged me if the situation was reversed. This election and decade is probably the wildest since the 1960's, lol.
Thanks... remember, much of my stuff that seems "off" is supposed to... it's my shtick in here. I really do try and play devil's advocate many times... even intentionally play the conspiracy theorist angle quite a bit to see how everyone takes it. I'm not completely above admitting I'm wrong. I do quite often in real life. It's refreshing. One of the best feelings is lifting the burden of an issue by admitting "I was wrong" or even "I don't know."
