    Pgabrial,

All true, but we are talking about global depression and it's roots were sewn at the end of WW1.

People were still thinking that economies were independent of each other, and the global depression proved otherwise.

First Germany's economy fell, then Italy, US, etc..etc..etc.. it was world wide, and all related to WW1.

Either way, a clear line has been illustrated that WWI caused WWII.

I was thinking last night...what if the Union had lost the Civil War. What if the UK and/or France had sided with the Confederacy. Then what? What would have happened when World War I broke out some 50 years later? Where would the US (the Union) side? How different would the world have been?

    Max,

Interesting, and pretty close to actually happening. Both France and UK were in favor of the confederacy as their garmet industry relied heavily on cotton.

Lincoln freed the slaves in order to stop England and France from joining the war, by making it about emancipation rather than states rights, it made it difficult for England and France to support because they had already freed their slaves.

I love alternative histories though....you should check out Harry Turtledove's books, he does this all the time, good reads.
