I'm torn. Great arguments on both sides. Talent-wise, it's a no-brainer. Bonzi would be the best two on the roster hands-down. He brings gritty defense, tough rebounding, and he can make his own offense unlike anyone besides TMac and Yao. Yes, he's been a punk for much of his career but players can change in the right environment. Remember what a punk Rasheed used to be in Portland? Now it's a distant memory. It probably helped for him to play with serious professionals like Ben Wallace, Rip Hamilton and Chauncey Billups. Maybe TMac and Yao can have the same effect on Bonzi. Equally as important, maybe playing for a coach like JVG could straighten him out. JVG was able to get maximum efficiency out of a "punk" like Sprewell. He helped turn underachieving Marcus Camby into a real force. He was even able to get Cato to play hard. Maybe Bonzi could thrive too. Or maybe not. Bottomline, if we pick him up I think it's the right decision; if we don't I think that's the right decision. I trust that the powers that be (VDM) know more than me about whether Bonzi will fit in with the players and with the scheme.

Portland wanted our pick and Juwan for Miles and their 30 and 31 picks. We did not want to give up our pick because we were after Roy with our contingent plan being that if Roy wasn't there, we get Battier. We would have jumped all over a deal for Roy and Miles.

I don't know about you, but I couldn't care less how the rest of the league views us. plus, if you are really worried about people viewing us as incompetent, let me remind you that putting up numbers in the W column tends to give people short memories.

See, I disagree. I have not heard one good argument as to why this would not be a good deal.

Chemistry killer?? We have a whole slew of new players, and 2 new starters, we do not have much chemistry to kill. These guys are going to have to bond and learn one another throughout the course of the season. It'll be true rather we start Snyder or Wells at the 2.

Can't be motivated?? As was mentioned earlier, JVG has motivated knuckleheads and lazy players, however, after stro, I'm not going to put all my eggs in JVG's basket. I will say however that Bonzi knows that he overplayed his hand and he is paying for it. He should be motivated this year to play hard and prove his value to any potential suitors.

Doesn't fit in our system?? Great rebounder, good defender, can create his own shot, can start at the two and backup T-Mac at the three. Can work in the post, (when 111 is our only real offensive threat there).

Now, lets assume that all three are true, and he's an unmotivated headcase that does not fit in our system. Well, then we have either a short contract to eat, or a tradeable asset that can be packaged with something else (much like we did with Stro this year).

Now like everyone else, I would love another big to back up the foul/fatigue/injury prone Yao, and the 107 year old deke, but if we have a legit opprotunity to land a talent like wells (which is where I am in doubt), then you do what it takes to get it done. Like I said I see no good reason not to do this.

That is not how I heard it. Do you have a good, or at least reasonable source?

Being a Jailblazer for a while, Bonzi should know a little about hands-down.

getting bonzi onboard would be great four our PF depleted team.

no, he doesn't play PF, but the stronger we can make the rest of this team, the better.

he'd be great off the bench, he'd be great on the block, good enough on D, he'd be great to run the floor and he's some good insurance if tmac goes out.

if we get bonzi, then the rockets would compete for the western conference title at least.

other than our 5s, we could really be considered a running team.

don't discount the guy because he's not proficient from three. i like him because if you've watched him, he rebounds well for a guard and he really attacks the basket.

If the Rockets can get Bonzi and then somehow add another PF (who actually plays like a PF)...the Rockets would be the team to beat...nobody would match them...i'm in dream land.

realgm says that a sign and trade for wells is unlikely because of the current payroll is past the luxury tax threshold... however with our trade exception that wouldn't be an issue. let's hope for the best haha

Huh? Just wondering where did you get the opinion that Yao is injury prone. Just because of last season, one foot and one toe injury?

    Here's the link:

Wells to Denver? -- According to the Denver Post, the Nuggets continue to show interest in former Kings shooting guard Bonzi Wells.

The Nuggets' interest began in February, when they contacted the Kings about a trade involving Wells. Denver's current shooting guards are 21-year-old J.R. Smith and rookie Yakhouba Diawara, and the Nuggets could use the veteran presence of Wells, who turns 30 Wednesday.

But the Nuggets, like the Kings, are near the luxury tax threshold of $65.42 million with their payroll, meaning there is little -- if any -- room for the Nuggets to sign Wells outright since Denver ownership has made it clear it would prefer to be a non-tax-paying team. The Kings' own proximity to the luxury tax means a sign-and-trade deal between them and the Nuggets also is highly unlikely. Houston and Miami also are said to be pursuing the free agent.

So if you believe we are in the race to get Bonzi then it looks like we are the frontrunners!

Pretty much. Injury prone was a bad choice of words but my point was that if either center goes down or gets in foul trouble we may have some problems at the 5.

I'm laughing at the fact that there's people here who wouldn't take Bonzi Wells on this team due to some perceived "chemistry" concern. On a team as talent deprived as this one, with unarguably the worst backcourt in the NBA, you don't pass up on legitimate NBA talent.

Yes, because neither Denver nor Sacto want to take on more payroll due to the luxury tax.
