reconsider the afore referenced chequered take on the checkered career personality driven by the always reserve funded profundity that is Bonzo's current, past and future contractural irreality thereof.

Onward and upward, the Astros just won and the Padres just took the lead over the Cards. Dreams can come true.

Wells is certainly taking a lot of time to think over

WTF? Pick a team, get over with it.

I heard the "night shift" on 610 mention there could be word as early as Friday.

Also, mentioned that if Ely signs with Bobkittens that Houston, and Denver would be the front runners.

Why dont we just use Sura contract to SnT with the kings. He needs to retire. It's as simple as that. His contract will be recovered by insurance and it wont count against the luxury tax. If we trade Sura+Bowen+pick+cash (buy out of Bowen) for re-signed Wells, we can pay Wells up to as many as 6M. We offer him 3 years contract and it would be as competitive as any other offers, if not more.

Of course I suspect our management would sit in their office and pray Wells would take the 2.1M exception. Of course nothing will happen and we will start the season with the most exciting guards in the league of Alston, Snyder, JLIII, Head and Span. Seriously anyone of you honestly think with our guards we can really beat Spurs, Mavs or Suns? More than likely we need to beat one of them to advance to the 2nd round. Is it going to happen?

Since he is under contract we might be able to get an injury exception.

No, I am not optimistic about our guards at all. Could be a disaster. We are expecting too much from very inexperienced players. Now if VSpan turns out to be the next Manu, not likely, but could happen.

Please folks...let's nip the erroneous notion of Sura for Bonzi stuff in the bud right now...

    53. How do retired players count against the cap?

Any money paid to a player is included in team salary, even if the player has retired. For example, James Worthy retired in 1994, two years before his contract ended. He continued to receive his salary for the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, so his salary was included in the Lakers' team salary in those seasons. It is at the team's discretion (or as the result of an agreement between the team and player) whether to continue to pay the player after he has retired.

There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is not included in the team's team salary. This is when a player is forced to retire for medical reasons and a league-appointed physician confirms that he is medically unfit to continue playing. There is a waiting period of one year following the injury or illness before a team can apply for this salary cap relief. If the waiting period expires mid-season (on any date prior to the last day of the regular season), then the player's entire salary for that season is removed from the team's team salary. For example, in March 2003 the Knicks were allowed to remove Luc Longley's entire 2002-03 salary from their books (and since the luxury tax is based on the team salary as of the last day of the regular season, the Knicks avoided paying any tax on Longley's salary). This provision can also be used when a player dies while under contract.

Teams are not allowed to trade for disabled players and then apply for this salary cap relief. Only the team for which the player was playing when he was disabled may request this relief.

If a player retires, even for medical reasons, his team does not receive a salary cap exception to acquire a replacement player.

IOW...the Kings are not going to trade for Sura's salary and pay a luxury tax for him. And his contract doesn't expire until after the 2007-08 season. Not gonna happen.

The Rockets backcourt as it is right now is tantelizing. There is a lot of room for the imagination. V-Span could be the real thing; a force of energy. Snyder has been described as Posey with a jump shot. John Lucas seemed to be the best player on the court in the summer leagues. And Raefer Alston finaly gets some weapons for the Assit machine to start it's boosters up! And Head in the Early part of last year was on a lot of the 1st team NBA Rookie teams; but tired out at the end of the year.

But, this unit has never had success in the NBA in the individual parts. Lucas and V-Span have relatively none or little NBA experience. And Snyder, Head, and Alston are still much unproven, even though they've been in the NBA a couple of years.

Well would be a nice welcome signing. Bonzi just makes the backcourt so much more viable and Well.

Gater, thanks for the clarification. I still remember after being placed on the injured list for more than one year, Terrell Brandon was traded by Twolves to some other team for salary cap purposes. Maybe that particular team didnt have the luxury tax issue and there was no need to apply for salary cap relief.

Then I would say Ely is the one in control of where Bonzi goes. Ely has a 3 million dollar qualifying offer from Charlotte. It has passed the time that they can rescind that offer. Of course if Charlotte truly wants Bonzi they could allow Ely to sign with another team. But at this stage it seems unlikely that anyone out there would offer him more than the 3 million.

It does seem like they are trying to move him but unless there's a Snt deal with someone who has a TE they will have to take on more salary and that would defeat the purpose of dumping Ely to acquire Bonzi. Who knows, any way you look at it Ely holds the cards. If he wants to test the free agent market next year he simply signs the 1 year qualifying offer with the Bobcats and it's all over. So for now Bonzi must sit and wait on ELy as we sit and wait on Bonzi. I hate it!

Please help me understand this provision - Using as an example a player traded after the 41st game to a team under the cap. Say, Head to Bobcats. Do the Rox owe 1/2 of the contract, 1/2 of the @$1mm for the year, against the cap or does the entire amount 'disappear' from the salary rolls and 'appear' on Charlotte's accounting?

    Thanks.
