The Kings are still taking back salary though unless Wells is signing for real cheap, and if he is going to do that, why not sign our deal?

I agree. I think the fact that Hoops world says denver may get bonzi means they surely wont. Just look back at the past speculation they reported.
Mike James likely to return to the Rox.
    Juwan to the Lakers?
    Rockets to draft Sheldon Williams.

Im glad they didnt report the rox were likely to get Bonzi.

not to nitpick, but i remember K9 hitting quite a few late game, cold-blooded three-balls during his days in H-Town. i agree with everything else [post player, short - but excellent - rebounder, guaranteed 5 years with $6.7M this year and $8.55M in his 4th and 5th].

i think it also warrants mentioning that he was badass at stripping the ball in traffic.

I don't mean to argue with you, but are you sure you are thikning of the right guy?

I don't remember KT ever even ATTEMPTING a 3, much less hitting a bunch of "late game, cold-blooded three-balls during his days in H-Town."

KT is the exact opposite of what this team needs. He is an under-sized inside player, with no outside game, and not a lot of defense to speak of. What we need is a large wing player, capable of draining the 3, and who can play lock-down defense.

Fortunately, we already HAVE the guy we need, so just say NO to KT.

    attempted? lol.

The Rockets were trying to develop KT's outside shot to see if they could turn him into a SF rather than a PF. That experiment failed.

Given that JVG has said he wants a PF that can hit open jumpers, KT doesn't seem to fit.

I was simply replying to Nero who wrote that he did not recall Thomas taking ANY 3 point shots in Houston.

Realgm released some article saying the Rockets and Mike James had agreed to terms this summer. Evidently, that wasn't the case.

.............and a grand total of 32 attempts in the 5 years following, all for a whopping 24% lifetime 3 point shooting percentage.

He can't shoot the long ball.

And as I said, I was simply responding to Nero's post that he did not remember Thomas taking ANY 3 point shots while with the Rockets.

No on KT - for the same reason as we should say no to talk of Cato.

    been there - failed there.

    Question for capologists:

If we do a S&T with Sac for Bonzi and the contract starts with the $4.3 million with the opt out clauses. After he opts out next year, can we offer the 20% increase up to $5.16 without interfering with our MLE? And then can we include opt out clauses in that contract that gives Bonzi the ability to do the same thing after the 2008 season and re-sign once again for a contract that starts at 20% more than the $5.16 million?

In other words, can we do the contract with the 20% increase and include opt outs in it twice?

Bonzi is a year younger than Mobley. When teams have cap space to spend next free agency, he'll get near what Mobley got from the Clips.

if it wasnt for bonzi's rep, he would be getting cuttino mobley salary right now. i miss the cat. its amazing how cuttino a second rounder, turned out more productive than francis, a 2nd overall pick.

    I don't think so.
Actually I think a few pages earlier, HeyP pointed out that a S&T deal is for a minimum of 3 years with no opt-out clause, and that the 1 year guarantee thing has to do with performance or injury or being cut or something.

And if Bonzi can opt out (which again, I don't even think this is a possibility), he'd have to be re-signed with the MLE or bi annual exception.

The S&T cannot be abused so that someone can attain bird rights earlier than if that team were to sign the free agent outright, hence the 3yr minimum rule.

So if Bonzi were to opt out and he signed MLE here, another opt out clause would have to be year 4 (that's the rules...see Mike James' contract...a lot of misconception about the "3rd year player option" when it means the option is AFTER the 3rd year, as the CBA only allows).

    Edit:
okay, I figured it out. The S&T is a 3 yr deal. There is NO player option after 1 year. The player CAN be waived or something and the Rockets would only pay for 1 year...some sort of exception...but it's not a player nor team option. And thus if the S&T contract is ended prematurely (after 1 year), the Bird Rights would be reset. And the only way to sign the player again is by having cap space, or using an exception (vet minimum, MLE, or LLE).
