    Not bad.

If Wells signs with Bobcats, then Ely will be available. :p

either way if charlotte gives him a good amount of money that silly considering they can keep their cap room and make a run for a better FA next season. at this point bonzi is on the cheap so as a GM why would i want to throw several millions at him when everyone else is giving him nothing. Also charlotte isnt the most appealing of places to play bonzi has always been on decent teams, not necessarily contendors but teams that make the playoffs would he be comfortable with consistent losing? also there is the "inflated stat syndrome" with the cats he could have great stats but most GMs may attribute it to being on the cats. I think avg 13-15 points on a contending team will do his status a lot more than getting 20 on a bad team. Bonzi seemed to really up his game last playoff run as he and artest were the only ones doing anything against the spurs. i am not holding my breath either way, if he signs with us that is great it will help the team tremendously if he doesnt its not going to change our status as a top team in the west

Beggin for trouble...Need some fire, with this craker jack team that we have. Dont you remeber the way that Jon Barry and Bobby Sura fired the team up? Bonzi can do the same thing while posing serious matchup problems.

just cuz a line up of yao battier tmac wells and alston isnt a spot up shooting line up, doesnt mean it cant score, there are other ways to score besides standing on the 3 point line and bricking shots...i dunt know abt u..but ive had enough of the barrys n wesleys etc. etc. we dont need shooters we need aggressive players who know their role and can score in variety, not just spot up shooting...and we have that in battier, and wells if we do get him

    From chron blog:

Bonzi Wells: Can a long shot pay off?

Obviously, if Bonzi Wells made the trip to Houston and chatted the day away with Jeff Van Gundy and Carroll Dawson before hanging around a bit with a couple of the fellahs, he's pretty seriously considering playing for the Rockets despite their financial limitations.

It would seem safe to assume that his agent let him know about the Rockets' inability to offer the kind of money he has made before and sought this summer. But he chose to check things out, anyway.

But in yesterday's story, I called the Rockets' efforts to sign Wells a "long-shot pursuit" because it is so rare to get free agent players while offering much less money.

The Charlotte Bobcats have roughly $9 million of cap space. I don't think they will be offering that much, but I would think Wells could draw just a bit more than mid-level exception money, probably something between $5 million and and $6 million, enough to easily outpay the Rockets.

Either way, Wells, who turned down a five-year, $36 million offer and made $8 million last season, would likely sign a contract in which he could be a free agent again next summer. If he took the Rockets' cash, he would not cost himself too much if he makes up for the one-year hit with a big contract next season.

Still, when predicting what free agent athletes will do, we tend to believe the reporting rule, "follow the money." You won't be right all the time, but you won't go wrong too often, either. The Bonzi chase offered a little late-summer excitement, but to me, the Rockets' chances still feel like a long shot.

How come there is no mention about the possibility of a S&T with the Kings?

To me...signing a 1-year deal in hopes of a bigger contract next summer is a big assumption. This was a relatively weak FA market and Bonzi was left out in the cold, I don't see how next summer would be any better considering the number of big name FAs on the market.

I was wondering the same thing. Why won't we be able to do s&t with kings.

SnT with the Kings would be moot if the Cats give Bonz MLE money. Bonzi like most NBA players will follow the money. The argument that Bonzi will select a team that will give him enough minutes to showcase himself doesn't persuade me, he's a thirty year old vet that doesn't have anything to prove.

Lets hope that the Cats lose interest and we can persuade the Kings to do a SnT so he doesn't sign with Miami or the Nuggets.

Maybe a possible case still being:
Wells sign with Cav, then trade for Head and Howard of houston

I'm saying that these are our weaknesses and trading a #1 pick for someone who won't address our weaknesses (Bonzi) is not something I would do if I were GM.

The Bobcats can still outbid us even w/ our S/T. That's his point. Players often take the biggest payday ...that would be the Bobcats.

If I were Bonzi and CHA offers me a long term contract similar to the 5 year 36 mil deal I turned down in SAC, I'm signing that **** immediately.

He's 30 years old, likely not many more good years left in his career, gotta take any kind of security that he can.

On the other hand, if I were a GM, I'd be hesistant to offer a 30-year-old guy with past conditioning/injury/motivation/chemistry questions a 5 year deal. I really can't bet that he'll stay useful all 5 years.

One call to Stromile Swift should clear things up for Bonzi.

    Everyone keeps talking about Charlotte.

Their owner is cheap and Charlotte, as I mentioned, wants "character" guys.

Unless Michael Jordan says "I can make Bonzi behave"---but why would he? Jordan is, what?, the GM? part owner? of the team, a part-time employee---I just don't see the Bobcats signing Bonzi.

"Bobcats coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff confirmed Tuesday he plans discussions with Wells' representatives sometime this week to gauge the free-agent swingman's interest in signing here."

Maybe you missed that, but it looks like 1) the cheap bobcats who want character guys ARE in fact interested 2) we know Bonzi wants to get paid and 3) They are planning to meet (maybe not Bonzi specifically) this week.

I think its appropriate that the cats keep getting brought up.
