I say we cut Bowen, and resign him as our 2nd mascot. He could wear a Turbo like costume, and hustle around the court during timeouts.

Well's interview reminds me of when we were trying to sign Damon Stoudemire last year. If you guys remember Might Mouse said all the right things about the Rox but wound up going to Memphis for more money. Make no mistake about it, Wells like Stoudemire will go to the highest bidder.

To me this is another example of why CD is useless, Well's should have been plan B with the MLE when we couldn't sign MJ. Instead he uses up most of the MLE to sign VSpan and JL3 and thinks he can now get Bonzi to sign for 2.1M. Wells would be worth a first rounder in a SnT but I don't think the Kings are looking to send Bonzi to WC rival.

    Bonzi Wells:

Led all Blazers in the seven-game playoff series with Dallas, averaging 19.0 ppg • Also tied Dale Davis for second in rebounding (6.9 rpg), was second in assists (3.7 apg) and first in steals (2.17) • His monster game of 45 points in Game 2 (Apr. 23 at Dallas) was the most ever in post-season action by a Blazer, eclipsing Clyde Drexler’s 42 at the Lakers Apr. 29, 1992 • The 45-point explosion came of 16-24 shooting from the field, 5 of 6 from three-point land, and 8 of 11 from the line • Set or tied every playoff career high in the Dallas series including rebounds (10), field goals (16), FG attempts (24), Free throws (nine), FT attempts (12), assists (seven), and steals (five).

and if bonzi went somewhere else the whining contingency would cry as to why we didn't sign this greek allstar and jl3 who had a very promising summer camp for a 3rd string guard. i guess you can never win, especially when you're expected to also predict the future as to where bonzi will land...

So, instead of actually doing something with the MLE money after James turned it down, CD should have held on to the cash because he should have seen in his crystal ball that Bonzi would have turned down the Kings offer, John Salmons would rescinded his acceptance of the Toronto offer, and the Kings would spend their money on Salmons and won't have enough to sign Bonzi, and now Bonzi?

Bonzi Wells is going to the team that has the highest chance of getting him a bigger offer next summer. Most likely it means some team that can work a S&T out with the Kings to preserve Bonzi's Bird Rights. It also likely means some team that has minutes to offer him to showcase his skills. Whether this team is the Rockets, the Bobcats, the Heat, Denver, or some other team remains to be seen.

My guess is Miami doesn't have enough minutes to offer him, with a loaded veteran team already. Denver doesn't have enough room under the tax limit to work out the S&T deal because SAC also doesn't want to take salary. Bobcats is possible, but you don't showcase skils that well when your team loses 50+ games.

As for Kings don't want to send Bonzi to a WC rival... this "not dealing with rival" thing is overrated. Conference rivals make deals with each other all the time. Besides, Bonzi can end up in the WC without Kings help.. this way Kings at least benefits.

JL3 is 5'11 and VSpan ain't as good as people make him out to be on this board, Boki was better and Boki didn't exactly set the NBA on fire. No I wouldn't have regretted the Rox not signing either of these guys, my point is CD should have kept the MLE intact to sign an impact player and not waste it by signing a couple of rookies that may or may not pan out.

If it was me, I would have given MJ his 900K trade kicker, that to me would have been less risky than to go into the season with JL3 and VSpan on the roster.

Boki warmed the bench for the Slovenia team that got ousted in group play. VSpan played good minutes for the silver medal squad that beat the US (thanks in big part to his 22 points).

How is Boki better than VSpan?

Whether VSpan amounts to anything in the league remains to be seen, as with all rookies, but we can probably say Boki is not better than VSpan.

Well, Boki did block that jazzhole Karla Malone in the playoffs :D
But, seriously, V-Span seems like a better prospect. I'm hoping that he can one day start for us. I love his tough attitude.

None of us should be getting our hopes high for this one. We had o shot at signing Wells to begin with...especially considering the contractual doe we have left to offer him. As mentioned in this thread, we've heard this crap before with Damon Stoud and even Mike James earlier this season. Bonzi is not coming to Houston. We best end that dream right here and now.

We also thought that we had zero chance to get Stro but he took less money to come here so we never know.We should continue to hope since the coming season is still days to go.

it's very possible that this becomes damon stoudamire like, but mighty mouse had more options then it seems bonzi currently does. summer's over and bonzi has no team and no suitors willing to give him the full MLE. we're offering him a chance to contribute to a winning team and possibly get bigger money next summer. 5 hours ago i wouldn't have given us a shot to sign him but apparently we have a very real opportunity.

as for cd, you're looking at this all wrong. there was always interest in bonzi but the level of interest changes as the summer moves along. after trading for battier, i think bonzi wasn't someone they wanted at the price of the full mle. the reason there is interest now is probably greatly due to the fact that he'd have to take a significant paycut. give him what we can and if he pans out, pay him next summer. low risk.

Except that he'll more than likely be leaving in a year, which is nothing like Stoudamire's case at all. Damon needed to find a team that could sign him long term and pay him long term.

Make no mistake about it, Wells is looking for the best place for him to showcase himself for next summer, whether that's the highest bidder or not.

    In my rookie opinion ,

Surely Signing Bonzi will help Rockets . We can't always count on perfect guys without any shortcoming. How many team get Yao, Lebron, Battier ,...?

Signing Bonzi will help Bonzi. Since Bonzi couldn't fight for money, the only thing left is his fame. Which way is better for his fame : get a champion ring in Miami from bench , help nuggets to be a west-conference contender, OR help Rockets to be a champion contender from lottery area as a SG starter ?

The only thing we should care about is what Kings want to get ? We count on CD/Morey magic.

4 teams currently trying to get Wells to sign:

Miami Heat: Max they can offer is 2.1 left of the MLE.

Denver Nuggets: they can offer around 2 million left of the MLE.

Bobcats are under salary cap so they will offer him only one year contract. Well might go to bobcats thinking about the scoring opportunities and bringing his price up.

Rockets: offering 2.1 left of the MLE and can trade him from Sac for 4.1 TE.

If he wants money this year and next year he will sign with bobcats. If he wants a chance to win a championship while showcasing his ability for 2.1 million dollars, he will pick Miami. But if he wants more minutes while contending for a championship team and earning 2.1 millions then he will pick Rockets.

So we better make sure that we some how make a dam trade with our 4.2 TE.
C'mon Rockets, this could give me some great hope after a disastrous season.

Anything except for Mcgrady and Yao. Give them the 1st round pick, i don't care, remember we are trying to win now, whats the point of keeping the pick. :p

If Bonzi signs... Mike James won't get the opportunity to act like a punk against the Rocks with Battier and Bonzi both on the court.
