If they do get Bonzi, I'd say the best thing about the transaction is that now the Rockets have some TMac insurance. If Tracy goes down again, at least Bonzi can spell him reasonably well as an perimeter offense/mismatch generator. Very few guards can physically handle Bonzi's strength (just ask Ginobili, Bruce Bowen, Brent Barry, Michael Finley and co).

There's also the fact that Bonzi can match up really well against that ugly mofo Jerry Stackhouse.

That could well be. I think he is much more than a "journeyman" player like one poster mentioned. I think he is a serious "impact" player, a difference maker. I like the Rocket's chances alot more with him than without him. He is very aggressive. This deal has my vote and would end a dreary offseason on a high note. I could actually start to get a bit excited.

Well, if we signed Bonzi, it sure would make this off-season a lot better, helping us recover from giving Swift away. Worst case, he becomes a trading chit. But, he certainly would add some valuable depth, as long as his attitude was good, and I'd feel a lot better about our possibilities this season. The Rockets need to do this, if nothing else, for fan morale.

I never said he was washed up or anything. I don't think my claim that his prime was 4 years ago calls for all three of those question marks up there.

In 01/02 he averaged 17/6/3 with 1.5 steals. Over the next two seasons, on the same team and in the same amount of minutes, most of his statistical categories dropped, including FG%, 3FG%, PPG, and RPG. Neither his PPG, FG%, or 3FG% have returned to their 01/02 peek, and his RPG didn't until this last season. He had less minutes in Memphis which could be a factor in his per game averages, but his FG% and 3FG% were also down.

Again, I never said he wasn't good anymore, because I happen to think he is. I just don't think he's in his PRIME anymore. Yes, he had a great series against the Spurs but he also knew that was likely his last chance to audition for that big contract he expected to get. If he can put up anything close to that, then obviously that's a hell of a deal. All I'm saying is that I don't expect him to come here and put up the most impressive numbers of his career. I'd expect 12/5/2.5 or something along those lines, and I'd be very happy with that too.

The problem with Bonzi Wells during his "down years" was partly due to his physical condition. When he signed with SAC, he said he dropped 30 lbs (from 240 to 210) during the offseason. I think weight loss contributed to him having a great year. All the extra mass he was carrying probably affected his game in Memphis.

I am worried about his weight and about him going down hill. That's why I hope we don't use the TE unless it's a one year deal and we only have to give up a 2nd rounder. It would be great if it was a one year deal. Bonzi was at 240 lbs? That's crazy.

I have to say if Wells comes in on a 1 year deal we will be pretty good. The versatlity of that lineup will be nice, His rebounding will allow Battier to play the 4 more, since rebounding would be one of his defiencies. His 2 years with Battier will help the meshing. Its gonna hurt V-span (unless he becomes more of a point) and Head and Snyder, but we can actually boast a real NBA roster i'd think.

NBA.com says his career high is 37, but didn't he drop 46 on the Mavericks several years back in the playoffs when he was a Blazer? I could've sworn he had a monster game against them. Someone help me out here.

Guy's a proven playoff performer, that's for sure.

not to mention he would be in a contract year again, forcing him to play better.

As much as I want this, I got burned like many others by Mike James. So I will get excited when I hear it on ESPN.

Dude, I'm sick of seeing stackhouse put his big butt out and post our sg's up everygame. Bonzi will own him for ONCE

Just imagine this starting line-up on opening day

    Alston..
    Wells...
    T-Mac....
    Battier.....
    Yao.....

    Our bench
    V-Span
    Head
    Hayes
    Deke
    Howard
    JL 3
    Novak

    IR-
    Bowen
    Snyder

    Jacobson<--probably cut
    Sura<---- retire
    Azuibuike<--- cut

So that equals the qualification of 15 man roster right??

It's hard who to choose for bench and IR. Geez

Da da da DA DAH!!... I'm Lovin' It~~as my friends at mick-e-d's would say

I'd cut Bowen before cutting Jacobsen. His 3 point shooting would be more beneficial to this team than Flyin' Ryan's "hard nosed" defense. Plus, if Sura doesn't retire, who else can we cut? Matt Harryasz?

Also everyone is thinking that we can offer our 4.2 TE, but why would Sacramento do it. Would they want Houston Rockets to get that much strong? If i were sacramento i would do anything to send Bonzi to the East and keep him away from Rockets.
