I was about to make mention of the Toronto game early last season where he tried to punch that guy in the back of the head.

I posted this in the Carmelo Anthony thread that was started in the garm before it was merged.

This would be a possibility, imo, if the Rockets still had interest at the time to acquire an All Star player.

I need a Batman-type signal on this site. Someone could shine a light in to the sky above the Denver/Boulder area with a gigantic "N4" or something and I would know to check ClutchFans. Maybe, maybe no...

ANYWAY, my immediate thought on this is that it's overblown. First off, it's Mark Kiszla. For those that aren't in the Denver area, this guy is our local blowhard. Think of a less douchey Jay Mariotti. He likes writing things just to see if they can get a reaction. All that said, I do know that the front office has discussed trading Melo if he refuses to sign the extension. The team can't risk losing him for nothing, and I fully support them in this. I love Melo. I think he's criminally overrated by the "casual" NBA fan, but criminally underrated by a lot of the "die-hards" (and you can see some of both of these on this very board). That said, he's not a LeBron/Kobe/Wade/Howard where you don't even really consider taking offers for him.

I'll try to start my annual Nugs off-season thread soon, but things are pretty quiet right now. I think the front office is waiting for everything to settle and to see which way the wind is blowing. I know they have their eyes on a few big names via trade, and a few small pieces as well. One thing that I will go off on in that thread is that the Nugs front office has earned my trust 100%. Honestly, the only front office I would trade them for is Houston's (I am THAT big of a fan of Morey -- even though I question his supposed love for Ricky Rubio). It's dysfunctional, but it works. If they feel trading Melo is best, I have faith that they're doing the right thing.

Hmmm... He'd be a slight upgrade at our three position... But what would we lose?

Are you sure his name isn't Dick Justice?

You're a good fan, glad to see that someone has some type of faith in their organizations decisions. I know the majority of this board is "IMWT" but some of these guys really think they'd do a better job than Morey, highly unlikely.

Hopefully, they do the right thing and make a deal with the Rockets, you guys would definitely get what you want and we'd be satisfied with adding our All Star to the roster.

See, I'm not sold on that. First off, I do have to clarify that I'm not a fan of rosterbation, but the only deal that I saw proposed in this thread that made me think "You know, that isn't bad" is the jumbo one you highlighted in your previous post. And I'm not a big fan of that deal (I'm nowhere near as high on Aaron Brooks as you guys are here, but that could also be because I'm not a fan of "scoring" point guards).

BTW, since he's now off of the market, I can now say that the Nugs were interested in Drew Gooden. I seriously doubt at the ridiculous salary he got from Milwaukee though. Good lord...

I understand that Al Jefferson is another name the Nuggets are looking at. If they want him, they're almost certainly peddling a similar trade offer to get Boozer, Amare, Bosh, or Randolph.

They are if they get a commitment from Melo to sign an extension. It's how we got McGrady, it's why we didn't complete a deal in Feb for Amare.

My personal opinion is that Melo wants to be a FA just to be a FA, it's a nice ego stroke. I think the Nuggets are getting a little to freaked in advance of it, demanding that he re-up now or they'll be "forced" to move him. Ironically, this is what Toronto *should* have done with Bosh. But Melo seems content to stay in Denver (unless they force his hand prematurely).

I don't like Carmelo as a person, but can't deny how great a fit he'd be in Houston. A solid offer from us would be Brooks, Ariza, Hill, (Andersen), and one of the two Knick picks.

So to make it an appeasable deal from your POV would this work?

    Martin + Lowry + Hill + Budinger + 2011 Rockets pick + 2012 Knicks pick

    for

    Carmelo Anthony

I'm sure that would be a good starting point from both sides with tweaks here and there. I mean there is no way you can start to low ball for a player like Melo, imo, so this is what I'd start with and go from there.

I just don't like the situation you guys are in as far as overpaying for forwards, you guys have K Mart, Nene, Bird Man, and they are all overpaid except possibly Nene. Add in Chauncey's contract and you guys are really paying big bucks for more role players than anything, at least 2 out of those 4. Ya know.

Wouldn't surprise me, but I doubt Randolph is a target. As much as Wark loves him, Bearup is scared of him. His recent legal issues probably haven't helped that.

Once again, I'm the wrong person to ask. Not a big fan of rosterbation.

If they were going to trade Carmelo, it would most likely be near the trade deadline as opposed to the offseason

    I respect that.

What was up with all those commercials during the Nuggets Jazz series this past playoffs, congratulating him on his championship on behalf of Utah? Sarcasm much?

I found it a little odd. But I guess they hate Carmelo that much over there.

If you think that the Rockets are going to trade for Anthony without coming to terms on an extension first, you really don't know how the NBA works.

The difference between Melo and Tmac is that Melo hasn't said he wants out of Denver, he just isn't eager to sign an extension right now. If the FA plays out a certain way, I can see Melo requesting a trade though. Say for example that Bosh goes to Chicago without S&T, while LeBron and Wade stay at home....Melo could want to go to Chicago. Regardless, wait till FA settles down.

Also, Denver may have a better idea of who's going to be under the cap next summer and could theoritically sign Melo. If there isn't anybody, then you can be pretty sure you're going to get a S&T. He won't walk for nothing.

But Melo wanting to come to Houston and commit? Seems rather unlikely.

That is the issue, anyone trading for him would want him to sign an extension just like Tmac did when he was traded to the Rox.

I have a funny feeling Melo is holding out for NY.
