I'm thinking it's Nene making those comments. He did get some bad calls so I won't blame him for blaming the officiating. Other than that I thought it wasn't that bad.
The officiating in the entire playoffs has been awful. Phil Jackson is the master of getting the refs ear through the press. His team gets whipped, he b****es through the press, and the calls go his way the next game. He's been doing it for 20 years.
Phil Jackson is well known to call out the referees when his team lost. He did it way back his Bulls days, so nothing news there! Referees favored lakers in this game just like they did favor Nuggets in game 4 and that is what we call Home Court Advantage! Nuggets lost simply because Lakers are better team!
If the Nuggets win because the refs favor them and then the Lakers win because the refs favor them, how can you say which team is better?
The Nuggets sucked.... they have nothing to blame but themselves for that loss.. The Lakers sucked also, but it was pretty obvious on some of the blatant fouls they were committing. I haven't seen a dumber team make it to the WCF EVER than these Denver Nuggets.
The media is going to make way too much out of that comment, the NBA is probably going to overreact, and the Nuggets will pay for it. It was a frustrated player, after the game, simply meaning that the Lakers complaints after game 4 gave them an edge with the officiating in game 5. It's not exactly an earth-shattering concept. That's why coaches/player complain to begin with -- to get better treatment from the refs in the future.
Because they lost? Nuggets shoot more FT in this series than Lakers. They shoot 5 less last game with 2 for time stopping at endgame, so that's really 3. I don't see why they should be complaining about not getting calls.
I don't think the Nuggets lost because of the refs last night. Denver is a talented but dumb team and they make dumb mistakes. That's what cost them the game. That said, I absolutely despise Phil Jackson's so-called mind game.
I'm sure it was more than 50,000. It's almost like the mob. Refs have been involved in so many scandals, but the commissar still wants us to believe that they are the best officials with the integrity of the game being their first priority. Blahh.
yeah in most sports it exsists or had already had similar problems, the problem is nba is easier to do it, why? i hate the conspiracy theorys but the fact is the nba or stern are very lenient with refs. with soccer if a ref screws up he is relegated to officiate lower divisions. teams in soccer can file complaints against refs, for example last year a ref was suspended from officiating games from a certain team because he made very blatant mistakes in both games he refed for them........ if the nba was like this guys like crawford would never ref a lakers game. thats the big problem , stern really protects the refs and if you complain the guy complaining gets a fine wether they have a point or not. also the refs shouldnt have such long careers that way you keep a good rotation of new refs coming in.
Don't really agree much with the guy, but glad he's talking about it. Eventually, Stern will have to change the policy regarding officiating and actually hold the refs accountable for their actions. I think fans are okay with missed calls in general, because we understand that humans aren't perfect. But the way NBA handles the refs and calls is just despicable.
There's a reason why the NFL is king. The officials have their own show on NFL network where the head honcho goes over the controversial plays of each week and tells the fans whether they screwed up or not. Ed Hochuli realizes he screwed up and actually emails back and forth with Charger fans apologizing. There is accountability.
garbage? did you not see the replay with ariza getting smacked in the head by kleizas elbow? i understand people here love to blame the refs esp when the lakers win but the officiating wasnt any better or worse than game 4. nuggets lost because smith, martin, and billups decided to take the 4th quarter off. they have no one to blame but their own poor play.
The refs just let both teams get away with too much contact in the 4th. Other than that, I think it was fairly officiated. The Nuggets choked. I could see them losing before the first half. They're up by 3 and trying to throw an inbound pass then make it to the half court, and what do they do? Turn it over like what happened in Game 1 and 3. You'd think Carl would practice inbound passing with them after failing at it 3 times in a row.
Exactly, it is absolutely LUDICROUS to suggest that Nene deserved that foul. The replays clearly showed that he beat Gasol to the spot! At worse, it should have been a no-call if not a foul on Gasol. And before anyone gets the wrong idea, the Nuggets didn't play well enough to win as they went too long without scoring (it was like watching a Rockets game where our guys go those long interminable stretches without scoring); however, that call came when the Nugs were making one last run and gotten the lead down to 4. That foul call was an absolute momentum-killer for them. If they called a foul on Gasol instead of Nene, the Nugs still have momentum and may had scored again to get the lead down to 2. Not saying that they could have won - the Lakers may have still won but only by a point or two or in overtime. Yet it is still frustrating to see a call like that being made and the impact it had on the rest of the game and especially considering that happened right before the refs just disappeared and let the 2 teams play street ball where no fouls are called.
That was a BS call on Nene at the end but he flopped to try to draw it. What if he had played straight defense instead? The way the game is played today is straight up weak ****. If the league really wanted to try to end the conspiracy crap they would put a stop to flopping and bring back hand checking. That way all these silly touch fouls wouldn't piss so many people off. Every team that hasn't won when the series is tight has called out the officials. From Stan Van Gundy to Phil Jackson and now Denver. It's not like Denver would've complained had they won a la game 4 which had some questionable calls of its own.
I don't think there offensive foul on Gasol at all--there was contact, yes, but there wasn't any more than happens on a regular play. If Nene doesn't fall, or if Nene falls but doesn't trip Gasol, no call is made. But you guys aren't understanding my point. The fact is, Nene went down. Gasol tripped over Nene. Now there is a lot of contact and the refs are forced to make a call or else it's turnover Lakers because Nene went down. Yes, they could have given Nene the flop call just as easily as they called him for the block. But what I'm trying to say is, Nene falling and trying to draw a really WEAK charge on Gasol in the 4th quarter of a relatively close game put it in the hands of the officials. Nene doesn't flop, and no foul is called either way, which is what everybody was calling for. I agree it was a questionable call--but again, Nene forced the officials to call it by falling instead of playing defense. And by the way, I'm rooting really, really hard for the Nuggets. I hate the Lakers.
Ref mistakes are made all the time, but I doubt this is a Kobe bias conspiracy on the part of the league. Otherwise, how is Lebron James allowed to be down 1-3 (unless the League is trying to set Lebron up for a huge comeback)?
