I'm starting to fall in line with the JVG sentiment. Problem is, the Nugs need to run. It's in our blood here. I want a running team. Too bad one of our former idiot GM's fired the best running coach in the NBA after one season. Ugh. Plus, I'm not going to lie, I'd miss JVG if he wasn't doing color commentary every week.
I agree with JVG on the Nuggets. He would give them an immediate identity, not exactly the perfect fit but it addresses their weak point. If Karl doesn't make the playoffs and the Rockets do without Yao. Wow.
I think Seattle's defense (or lack thereof) tonight might have been the worst in history! Denver put them to shame! But then again, they are a young team and Denver is supposed to be a contender (at least according to Screaming A. Smith)! I feel bad for Camby! He is a pretty good player in my opinion!
Yeah I don't get it? How does a team with two legit superstars averaging 52 points a game, a center tearing up the boards and blocking/contesting whatever shot is within 10 feet, and a decent bench for the minutes of AI and Melo, not play more consistently? How bout some AI bashing for a change? Bash, bash! He's going down as the smallest player averaging the most points in NBA History. But he's also going down and the biggest "ME" player in history. I feel sorry for Melo. AI has slowed his progress by a year or two. I'm not a Denver or Melo fan, but I hope hope hope AI to wash off on him!
JVG D Coach, RA O Coach next year? Surely we can pay JVG more than ESPN! I miss Jeff, no one teaches defense better.
I kinda agree with you when you said that the Nuggets are overrated. But it's an offensive team and they play fast ball. Each team has it's own ''personality'' and btw they won like 36-23 this season? It means that it works.
The problem is that Denver either doesn't run well, or doesn't play half-court well on offense. I don't know which because I don't watch enough of their games. But their offensive efficieny's quite mediocre. Surprisingly enough, the Nuggets are just a bit better than the Rockets on on offense, really. High-paced games are good, if you can run it as efficient as the Suns or even the Don Nelson teams. But Denver offense is not in that elite category. Well, if he's coaching your team, you'll hear plenty of his sarcastic remarks in post-game interviews. The problem? The guy is always negative you'd swear that 10 point win against a good team was actually a 20 point loss to the Hawks.
Would you believe that the answer is "both"? WHEN we run, we're awesome. WHEN we have a plan in the halfcourt, we're awesome. Unfortunately, both of those are only around 50% of the time. As for the Nugs having to run, that's mostly personal. The team has always been a running team, it should always be a running team. It's the type of basketball I prefer. I hated the mid-90s Knicks vs Heat garbage. I loved the Suns running the last few years. I'm greedy and selfish, let me be.
The problem is Melo is one trick pony. He is great scorer and that is about it. He plays no defense or makes his teammates better. I am not sure what it is, but I just dont get a good vibe from Melo.
If the Nugs had anyone who could knock down a three, he'd average 7 assists a game his entire career. He's got good vision. In the past, he dogged it on rebounds, but they've gone up and are now over 7 a game this season (with another one or two stolen by Camby every game). His defense needs work, but for the first time in his career he's actually trying on defense. I know I'm biased, but I think he gets a bad rap among most fans of the NBA.
no you are 100% correct - he doesnt get the credit he deserves. many of the fans who hate on melo are highly uninformed. hes a great player in the league.
I dont believe that for a second. If Tmac can get a few assists from Chuck Hayes and Rafer, dont you think Melo should get a few more from Denver's role players? Also, I am not just talking about accumulating assists, but just making the game easier for your teammates. I honestly dont think he does that. Dont get me wrong, I think he is a very good player, but nowhere in the class of elite guards/forwards.
Funny that one day when I listened "950AM The Fans"(Denver's local sports radio station), the sports analysts were discussing Melo's ranking in NBA. And their conclusion? ==> Melo is for sure the top 10 players in the league, and probably also among the top 5 players, over Yao and TMAC. Now you know how Denver guys think about their boy.
They're an AWESOME defensive team. And they're a TERRIBLE defensive team. Read this post: http://www.clipsnation.com/story/2008/2/29/143837/501 And follow the link to my listing of the games where they play downright dominant defense, against all sorts of teams (great/awful, high-scoring/low-scoring, up-tempo/slow).
