I haven't gone to a dentist in maybe 25 years, and I brush roughly once a day (most of the time). Hardly ever floss. My teeth don't show when I smile, and I rarely smile anyways, so I'm not terribly concerned with the way my teeth look. I can't remember having a toothache, either. So how bad are my teeth? I rather like them. My canines are nice and sharp, and that's all that really matters right?
I have a tooth in the back that needs to be pulled but the dentist wants to do a root canal and put a crown on it instead. but but but I just want him to pull it out. He said that if he just pulls it out then the top tooth (toof) wouldnt have nothing to bite down on.
just went to the dentist for the 1st time in 4.5 yrs on friday (could've sworn it was only about 2 yrs or so)... anyways, almost no problems whatsoever. 2 spots of slight concern where a cavity could develop in between my teeth, but nothing that can't be avoiding with a little more routine flossing. btw, i rarely floss... takes an act of congress. but i'm trying to do it at least a few times a week. i was really, really, REALLY dreading going as i thought i would have some serious issues, but alas it was as painless a dentist trip that i can remember. other than that, i need to get my wisdom teeth removed (not at all necessary, but they're a pain to keep clean so i might as well), could use invisalign (serves me right for having braces for some 2 odd years than throwing that $$$ away by never wearing my retainer), and want to get some teeth whitening done.... basically all cosmetic.
i get my teeth cleaned the normal twice a year. I had roughly 5 cavities in my baby teeth. As an adult, I once had 8 in one visit (majority in between teeth). Have probably had about 6 others. Over the past 4 years, I've had maybe 3 new cavities--1 of which was an on-lay. And I have been in the process of replacing the bigger old cavities with on-lays. In fact, I just had one done (well, the beginning of it) this morning.. I've brushed twice a day (sonicare) for the most part at least over the past 7-8 years (sometimes once a day before that, sometimes twice), but I was pretty bad about flossing and apparently that really hurt me after 21ish. Gotten much better about that in the last year or 2. More and more convinced that 80% of tooth issues are due to genetic predisposition
I feel that way, too. My sister will get cavities and such even though I know she takes much better care of her teeth than I do. One thing that it was attributed to was her gum chewing, but since she's switched to sugarfree gum, I still come out better.
I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled (all impacted) in 1989. That was the last time I was in a dentist's office.
I should clarify that the work was done over the course of two visits. The first visit was supposed to be the worst but it only last about 2 hours. The second was supposed to be easier but I ended up being in the chair for 5 hours. It was supposed to be done over 3 visits but the dentist had time and I had the motivation to just get it finished on the second visit.
Oh and my insurance rocks. I have been through hell this year with my health and my insurance company has picked up the tab for about $25K in medical/dental costs and I'm out less than a $1000 total for the year. Working for European based companies is the way to go for sure.
Whoa, let me get this straight - you had cavities when you were 4 or 5??!! As for me, I went a long time without having any cavities but I finally got like 2 when I was 20 (I'm 36 now). I went like 4 or 5 years without going to the dentist because I didn't have any insurance and I also hated going. Well in late 2000, I finally had dental insurance and I went for the first time in close to 5 years. The result was like 8 more cavities including in all 4 wisdom teeth. I had fillings put in all the teeth that had cavities except for the wisdom teeth. I then had them extracted by an oral surgeon. I haven't had any problems since but I am on a 6 month cleaning schedule. My biggest problem right now is getting food stuck in the little gaps/spaces between my teeth. I think the older you get, the harder it is to avoid having food getting caught in these gaps/spaces. But I still hate going to the dentist - it is one of the most unfavorite things I have to do.
My teeth are real bad... when I was a bit younger, I had a ton of stuff done to my teeth... a lot metal stuff.. I can't even remember... got my braces off about 2 1/2 years ago and now my top teeth are somewhat crooked again because I stopped wearing my plastic retainer (which they said I had to wear for like LIFE basically)... I got tired of not having snacks anywhere and having to brush every time after I ate something... it was a pain. I still have my bottom teeth retainer which is metal... Now to the problems.. haven't done a teeth check up in a while but I'm guessing I have a few cavities and probably need a root canal or bridge/filling/crown on this one tooth that fell out a while back... it's in the back... Also, I have a chipped front tooth that I still need to get fixed... broke it when I was 4 and then I repaired it but that "fake" part broke off again and so I need to get a lot of things done with my teeth. My teeth are also somewhat yellow... I'm not saying they are yellow.... but they aren't fully white... I guess I should brush more than twice a day... I'd also like to admit that i'm lazy so I don't really floss much... but I do use a toothpick every now and then... but I will start to floss starting TODAY. woo hoo!
Ah well you are a lucky man.... able to smile without showing your teeth.. that's something I wish I could pull off.. I think you should get a clean up/check up once a year... as a matter of fact... GET YOUR ASS ON THE PHONE WITH A LOCAL DENTIST RIGHT NOW AT THIS VERY MOMENT AS YOU ARE READING THIS AND GET YOURSELF A DAMN APPOINTMENT. You're welcome!
I don't remember what the procedure was, just that is was horrifying and I will stop at nothing to never go to the dentist again.
